The SAISD Foundation will kick off surprise announcements of more than $100,000 in educator grant awards to teachers and staff in San Antonio ISD. Teachers at Kelly Elementary School will be the first grant applicants to receive the news of their grant award in a gym full of students.
 
This grant, which will be used at the blended campus of Kelly Academy at Lowell this fall, will support the first Ballet Folklorico program for those two campuses. Judy Geelhoed, executive director of the SAISD Foundation, says investing directly in teachers is one of the best ways to improve student learning and increase student engagement.
 
“This investment is special because we will be able to see a program come to life at one of SAISD’s new blended campuses that in past years was just too small to host that programming,” said Geelhoed. “We are proud to be supporting what we know to be the promise of the district’s rightsizing process – access to additional programming. We hope that our educator grants bring additional learning experiences to campuses both during the school day and in afterschool programming.” 
 
Additional grants will continue to be awarded to teachers in surprise announcements during the remainder of this school year.
