SAISD Libraries provide a safe and nurturing environment for students to explore, discover, engage, create, and connect.


Library Media Services provides a full range of technical and professional support through integrated services that enhance the quality of instruction, improve student achievement, leverage technology, and develop 21st Century Competencies: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.



SAISD students, with the help of their librarians, Gifted and Talented coaches, and teachers, and the support of their administrators participated in the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival. There were several winners. Congratulations to the following students and schools:

Elementary Category

  • Honorable Mention - Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág (1929 Honor Book) - Carlos V and Eric U, Madison Elementary
  • Honorable Mention (2) - Old Yeller by Fred Gipson (1957 Honor Book) Galileo E, Advanced Learning Academy
  • 3rd Place - Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel (1973 Honor book) - Amara, Ailani, Angel & Eric, Collins Garden Elementary School
  • 2nd Place - Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli (1991 Medal Winner) - 3rd and 4th Grade, Lamar Elementary School

Middle and High School Category

  • 3rd Place - Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes (2018 Honor Book) - Michael and Brandon, Thomas Jefferson High School 
  • 2nd Place - Crispin: The Cross of Lead by Avi (2003 Medal Winner) - Juárez E, Advanced Learning Academy 
  • 1st Place - Annie and the Old One by Miska Miles (1972 Honor Book) - Alinne and Brenda, Young Women’s Leadership Academy
