Course Description: Customer Service
The CSS Certification is a soft skills certification that validates one’s work skills through employability concepts. Developed to meet the role of an evolving service-oriented job market relevant to every industry, employer, and employee. Topics included are safety, ethics, respect, teamwork, communication, telephone and
email techniques, problem solving, interpersonal relationships, and sales and marketing. Graduates of this program will obtain an industry recognized ETA CSS Certification and be referred to
Integrated Human Capital for employment opportunities.

Course Description: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
The classes cover a comprehensive range of topics such as how to bathe a patient, position a patient properly, proper body mechanics for lifting and transferring patients. Also, topics such as recognizing depression, dealing with dementia, infection control issues, and perineal care. There is much to learn, so classroom time is partly lecture and part hands-on skills training. The clinical aspect is 40 hours and the student will be assigned a clinical externship at a long-term care facility to master all the skills you are taught during your lecture and skills training.

Course Description: CompTIA IT Fundamentals+
This competency-based IET course provides students a preview of technical instruction and practical experiences necessary for work in a career requiring computer skills. IT Fundamentals: This course is designed as a starting point for a career in Information Technology. It will help you learn more about the world of IT and provide the necessary entry-level skills to become a systems support professional. Instruction includes IT literacy, environmental and safety concepts, operating systems, software, hardware, networking, alternative technologies, security and computational thinking. Upon completion, the student will be knowledgeable and have the skills to set up and use a computer at home securely and keep it in good working order and to provide basic level support for personal computers and simple computer networks, mobile, applications, and network support to your colleagues in a small business. The IT Fundamentals+ training will result in adult education students receiving the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ industry recognized certification (upon passing) which is required for entry-level IT jobs and opens the door for further opportunity for employment in the technology industry.

Course Description: The Medical Billing and Coding
Technician training class is designed to teach the knowledge in technical and procedural aspects of basic medical billing and coding, including using ICD-10-CM and CPT code books, various coding systems,
government programs, and general insurance procedures such as HIPPA Privacy Rule and Worker’s compensation claim forms required to become a Certified Medical Biller and Coder. The program will teach
students the concepts of Introduction to Medical Billing and Coding, Ethics, Introduction to Human Anatomy, Medical Billing and Coding Equipment & Supplies, Medical Billing and Coding Procedures, and Medical Billing and Coding Fundamental Essentials. This class is designed for learner’s who want to advance their career or interested in starting a career in the medical field to become a medical billing and coding technician.

Four Class Options to Choose From:

Option 1: Enhanced In-Person Plan -This is the traditional adult education class provided on site/in-person with enhanced SAISD safety precautions such as following CDC social distancing guidelines with a smaller teacher-student class ratio, increased hand sanitizer availability, increased frequency of sanitation of high touch areas etc.

Option 2: Enhanced In-Person & Remote Class Instruction Plan -This hybrid class combines in-person instruction with remote class instruction (join via Zoom) concurrently with increased safety and disinfecting measures as listed in Option 1.

Option 3: Scheduled remote Class Instruction Plan - Students don't come to any site to attend class. Instead, they join an online class via Zoom at a specified scheduled time to participate in remote/online learning. Enrollment, testing, and instruction would be offered 100% online. Students must meet technology requirements to participate in this plan.

Option 4: Distance Learning Plan -Students use web-based program to access learning curriculum aligned to the Texas Workforce Commission Content Standards designed to fill-in learning gaps the students need to achieve educational goals. Students must meet technology requirements to participate in this plan.

Adult Education Literacy (AEL)
The Adult Education Literacy (AEL) program embraces success for all adult learners, helping them define what success means to them in order to guide them on a path toward continued improvement and growth. The program’s mission is to ensure that all adults who live in San Antonio have the skills necessary to function effectively in their personal and family lives, in the workplace, and in the community.

Services offered under the Adult Education program are free of charge to the community and include the following:

Adult Secondary Education (ASE)/GED® preparation;
Adult Basic Education (ABE)/ASE/GED® for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) recipients;
Adult Basic Education (Mathematics, Reading and Writing) - class offered in English and Spanish;
English as a Second Language (ESL);
English Literacy Civics (EL Civics);otherwise known as U.S. Citizenship;
Post-secondary education and training (Transitions); and
Distance Learning (self-paced online course).

Specialized services include:

Integrated Education Training (IET) career training combined with workforce preparation and academic support;
Integrated EL CIVICS (ESL/EL CIVICS/Career Training); and
Employer partnership with Plumbers & Pipefitters Union: Contextualized TXCHSE or ESL based on employer needs.

All programs emphasize English language competency, basic and secondary skills in reading, writing, math, problem-solving and workplace literacy.

Community Education
The SAISD Community Education program identifies, assesses and promotes the learning needs and interests of the community by building relationships with families and local community businesses. The goal is to create partnerships with families and community members that will increase participation in family enrichment activities. The program is designed to raise student academic performance, attendance, and retention which strengthen the community and increase opportunities of an improved quality of life. In collaboration with over 45 community partners, SAISD offers free community education classes in the following strands:

Family Literacy
Healthy and Active Lives
Financial Literacy
Digital Literacy
College & Career Exploration to include TSI Prep
Community Enrichment and Leadership

Community member attendance in these classes enhance and upgrade employment skills and provide exposure to resources and support from the community that markedly increase participant self-confidence and advance their education, which allow them to assist their children academically and be a role model for family and friends.
