SAISD SPOTLIGHT: Wilson Elementary student Viviana Castilleja
In this age of “see something, say something,” SAISD student Viviana Castilleja did just that this past January. And it may have saved a family’s life. The Wilson Elementary student’s family was traveling on Edison Drive when Viviana saw flames shooting from the top of a house. She told her mom what she saw. They pulled over at the house and knocked repeatedly on the door to alert the residents. Castilleja’s mother called 911 while the family safely evacuated.

Now the San Antonio Fire Department and SAFD Chief Valerie Castro want to recognize Viviana in front of her peers at Wilson Elementary (see below) for thinking quickly and telling her mother about seeing the flames.
