SAISD SPOTLIGHT: Student exhibition features ocean-themed art that glows in the dark
At Fenwick Academy, nearly 100 students in first through eighth grades are presenting their ocean-themed projects Wednesday — and those projects glow in the dark. The presentation is the culminating event of the International Baccalaureate school’s Summer Boost program, themed “Dive into Learning.” 

“Under black lights, their artwork comes alive to highlight the mystery and beauty of the sea,” art teacher Joely Montoya said.

Fenwick Academy is one of seven IB schools in SAISD holding summer boost programs in partnership with the Texas Council for International Studies. Their artwork is on display from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m., with additional opportunities for b-roll until 10 a.m. See calendar item below.

June 23 (Mon) – SAISD Foundation “Beat the Heat” visit to Texas A&M – San Antonio
12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Texas A&M – San Antonio, One University Way, 78224
The “Beat the Heat” program addresses summer melt – the phenomenon where students are accepted and committed to college, but for various reasons, do not enroll. The program gives young alumni one-on-one registration support with trained Postsecondary Navigators. During these visits, students receive hands-on assistance to complete essential tasks such as:
- Sending high school transcripts
- Submitting test scores
- Addressing financial aid verification
- Setting up accommodations through Student Accessibility Services

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on its 2025-26 Budget and Proposed Tax Rate, followed by its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.

Nearly 100 International Baccalaureate students in first through eighth grades are presenting their glow-in-the-dark-ocean-themed projects as a culmination of their Summer Boost enrichment program. The program, themed “Dive into Learning,” allowed students to explore the rich diversity of ocean life and the connection to their own lives via the arts.
