SAISD SPOTLIGHT: SAISD reigning Teacher of the Year Miryam Gonzalez
Each year when SAISD honors the Teachers of the Year for each campus (see below), three are highlighted from that elite group. These “Distinguished Teachers of the Year” are, simply put, the “best of the best.”
Sarah King Elementary bilingual teacher Miryam Gonzalez is one of those rock star teachers. As the reigning SAISD Elementary Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Gonzalez is the kind of educator that principals wish they could clone. Lessons come alive in her Pre-K classroom. Gonzalez, this year’s Trinity Prize winner for San Antonio ISD, says successful student outcomes begin by making kids believe in themselves.

“I want my students to know they are leaders, so each group has leaders with different roles," Gonzalez said. "I want them to know that they are problem solvers and that it's okay to make mistakes, so we cheer for each other when we make a mistake and try to fix it. My proudest moment this year was hearing one of my students say, ‘I can do hard things, Ms. Gonzalez, because you believe in me.’”

Contact us to schedule a time to visit Gonzalez’s classroom to witness teaching excellence in action.
