Juan and Rosa Narvaez don’t have to wait until Dec. 25 to unwrap their presents. The couple already gave, and at the same time, received the greatest gift of all. The gift of Familia.
“This is our first Christmas together officially as a family,” said Rosa Narvaez, FACE Specialist at Wilson Elementary. “These are my children.”
Rosa and her husband Juan, who is the Wilson Elementary crossing guard, adopted five children in November. The couple have been married for 25 years and already had eight children of their own, along with eight grandchildren.
“It makes us feel like we are living our purpose in life,” said Rosa. “When people tell us we are crazy, that only confirms to us we are doing the right thing.”
This story began three years ago when a family member’s five children were in state custody. Authorities were looking for someone to provide a short-term home for the children, and the couple stepped in.
“We were supposed to be enjoying our later years together. God had other plans for us,” said Juan. “These five angels changed everything for the better.”
When the parental rights were terminated last year, the Narvaez duo began the process to officially adopt the children. The adoption was made official on Nov. 1, and the court proceedings were live streamed back at Wilson Elementary, where four of the kids are students.

“Our Wilson familia has been amazing,” said Rosa, who has been with the campus for seven years. “Our Wilson family provided us with everything we need. They have helped make this possible for us.”
“This will truly be the best Christmas ever,” Rosa said.

Juan y Rosa Narvaez no tienen que esperar al 25 de diciembre para desenvolver sus regalos. La pareja ya dio y, al mismo tiempo, recibió el mejor regalo de todos. El regalo de la Familia.
"Esta es nuestra primera Navidad juntos oficialmente como una familia", dijo Rosa Narvaez, Especialista FACE en Wilson Elementary. "Estos son mis hijos".
Rosa y su marido Juan, que es guardia de cruce de la escuela Wilson Elementary, adoptaron cinco niños en noviembre. La pareja lleva 25 años de matrimonio y ya tienen ocho hijos propios y ocho nietos.
"Nos hace sentir que estamos viviendo nuestro propósito en la vida", dijo Rosa. "Cuando la gente nos dice que estamos locos, eso sólo nos confirma que estamos haciendo lo correcto".
Esta historia comenzó hace tres años, cuando los cinco hijos de un familiar estaban bajo custodia del Estado. Las autoridades buscaban a alguien que pudiera proporcionar un hogar a corto plazo a los niños, y la pareja intervino.
"Se suponía que íbamos a disfrutar de nuestros últimos años juntos. Dios tenía otros planes para nosotros", dijo Juan. "Estos cinco angelitos cambiaron todo para mejor".
Cuando el año pasado se les retiró la patria potestad, el dúo Narvaez inició los trámites para adoptar oficialmente a los niños. La adopción se hizo oficial el 1 de noviembre, y los procedimientos judiciales se retransmitieron en directo en la escuela Wilson Elementary, donde estudian cuatro de los niños.

"Nuestra familia Wilson ha sido increíble", dijo Rosa, que lleva siete años en el campus. "Nuestra familia Wilson nos proporcionó todo lo que necesitamos. Han contribuido a que esto sea posible".
" Estas serán realmente las mejores Navidad de nuestra vida", dijo Rosa.
