San Antonio ISD’s Bowden Academy will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, in conjunction with the school’s end-of-year Celebration of Learning, to unveil its newly renovated gym to the community and to celebrate other improvements the East Side campus received under Bond 2020.

On Nov. 3, 2020, San Antonio ISD voters passed two propositions totaling $1.3 billion. Most of the bond funds were allocated to significant renovation needs at about one-third of SAISD campuses. Renovations have been completed at Bowden Academy and J.T. Brackenridge Elementary. Construction is progressing at 11 other SAISD campuses, with work at Rogers Middle School, CAST Med High School and Highlands High School expected to be completed by the end of fall. Improvements for 16 other schools are in various stages of design or planning.

The $2.7 million allocated to Bowden Academy, which serves grades Pre-K-8, paid for:
Renovations to the existing gym, including new flooring and lighting, HVAC upgrades, fresh paint, renovated bathrooms, locker rooms, and interior and exterior storage
A full-length, grassy multipurpose field for outdoor sports and recreation
New stone seating for spectating, socializing, and learning
A new covered walkway connecting the Pre-K building to the main building, providing cover from heat and inclement weather
Two new playgrounds with rubberized surfaces
A refreshed half basketball court with nearby natural stone seating
A new monument sign near the school entrance
Technology and security upgrades
