Project Implementation



HVAC Replacements

  • Mechanical upgrades for Forbes Elementary School and Foster Academy will be finalized in July 2023. Three campuses - Pershing Elementary School, Whittier Middle School, and YMLA – Wheatly will receive mechanical upgrades in August 2023Manufacturing supply chain issues continue to cause long lead times for equipment delivery.  

 

Security Upgrades

  •  Fifty-three campuses have received new interior and exterior cameras. The remainder of the schools are to receive upgrades as part of their planned renovations.

 

Major Renovations

  • Construction or site prep work is underway for these schools this summerSchools in the construction phase include CAST Med High School, Edison High School, Highlands High School, Sam Houston High School, Young Women's Leadership Academy (6-12), Rogers College Prep Middle School, Bowden Academy, JT Brackenridge Elementary School, and Graebner Elementary SchoolMonthly updates for each project can be found online at https://www.saisd.net/page/2020bond-projects 

 


Technology Upgrades

  • June saw the introduction of an upgrade to our Guest WiFi across the district, replacing an almost 10-year-old version. Campuses that received upgrades include Rogers Middle School, JT Brackenridge Elementary School, Bowden Academy, Burbank High School, Brackenridge High School, Lanier High School, and Sam Houston High School.
  • In July, cleanup efforts from the June campuses will culminate the end of the final phase of a 2-year wireless upgrade, delayed due to COVID supply chain issues, with wireless upgrades at Highlands High School and Jefferson High School. 
  • Edison High School will receive its wireless access point upgrade after its Bond 2020 renovations are complete, along with other Bond 2020 campuses not included in previous phases of the 2020 Wireless Refresh
  • Wireless refreshes occur every five to seven years utilizing a Federal Communications Commission program called ERate, which provides public or private schools (K-12), libraries, and groups of schools and libraries (e.g., consortia, districts, systems) discounts for eligible services, commonly services that connect students to the Internet; SAISD receives 85% to 100% discount on most services within this program depending on the category of services being applied for.

 

Citizens Advisory Committee

  • The 21 members of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) hold meetings quarterly to inform and advise the Board in matters relating to Bond 2020. The next meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. in the Board Room.
