Today, schools around the district honored Patriot Day, in observance of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Several JROTC companies held ceremonies, paying tribute to those who perished and reflecting on the resilience that emerged in the face of tragedy. Pictured are ceremonies at Brackenridge, Burbank, Edison, Highlands, and Jefferson high schools, Davis Middle School and at St. Philip’s College, where Sam Houston JROTC presented the colors. Additionally, San Antonio ISD police took part in a stair climb at Alamo Stadium in honor of the 9/11 first responders.

We celebrated another Bond 2020 milestone! Schenck Elementary School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Wednesday night. Guests were treated to charming performances by Schenck’s ballet folklórico and choir in the brand-new library funded by Bond 2020.
Additional Bond 2020 renovations include a new academic building complete with classrooms, extracurricular spaces, and a community room, one of the first in the district.
Schenck first opened its doors in 1955 and had the largest cafetorium for the elementary at the time of construction. Go Owls!

Student collaboration is amplifying math learning at Longfellow Middle School. Sixth grade students walked the halls together engaging with fraction problems, sharing strategies, asking questions, and engaging in meaningful math dialogues about multiplying and reducing fractions. It’s more than finding the right answer. It’s about thinking critically, learning from one another, and making sense of challenging mathematics together. Great job, Spartans!

We celebrated another Bond 2020 milestone! Brackenridge High School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony along with their “Meet The Eagles" pep rally last Friday night. Guests were treated to electric performances by Brackenridge’s Mariachi Aguila, cheer squad, dance team, and band in the brand-new gymnasium funded by Bond 2020. Additional Bond 2020 renovations include a new dance studio, renovated practice gym, and additional athletic support space upgrades.
G.W. Brackenridge High School was established in 1917 and recently received major renovations to its academic space thanks to the 2016 Bond. The school is dedicated to graduating all students as empowered, community-minded, college-ready students who think innovatively and contribute as 21st Century globally-competent citizens.
The school has earned an A rating and two distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency for the 2025-26 school year. Go Eagles!

October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. We celebrate all our students who learn differently and our staff who support them on their academic journeys. Some of the most common learning disabilities include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorders, language processing disorders, nonverbal learning disabilities, and visual perceptual/visual motor deficits. San Antonio ISD’s Disability Services team support these learning disabilities and more, helping our students to reach their goals.
