The creativity of 48 San Antonio ISD artists is on display at the Central Library. SAISD students produced nine of the top 10 award-winning pieces and 48 of the 60 total displayed pieces for the student portion of the Imagínate exhibition honoring the inspiration of UTSA professor emerita Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark.
More than 400 entries were received from school districts across the city allowing students to color, draw, and create using the same base – a line drawing of Dr. Clark. Winners were chosen based on their “artistic attention and imagination” to create a piece that really stood out, Dr. Patricia Sánchez, chair of Bicultural and Bilingual Studies at UTSA, said at the award ceremony Feb. 3.
In total, eight pieces are displayed from Bonham Academy, 16 pieces are displayed from Graebner Elementary, 19 pieces are displayed from Irving Dual Language Academy, four are displayed from Twain Dual Language Academy and one is displayed from Rodriguez Montessori.
“Your art is amazing,” curator Vincent Solis told the students. “I had so much fun putting it all up.”
The top 10 students received prizes including art supplies, UTSA swag, books, and scholarships (for students 7 and older) to art classes at the UTSA Southwest Campus. They also had a chance to share at the podium about their design choices and what they love about art.

Graebner Elementary brought its young artists on a bus to the reception, where they had the chance to interact with Dr. Clark, who encouraged them all to imagine their futures.
“This was such a great opportunity for our Griffin artists to showcase their creativity and talent,” Graebner art teacher Celeste Sarabia said. “What stood out most to me about their artwork was that each student took Dr. Clark on a different adventure — in some cases taking her into their world. One student drew her on a football field, another student drew her in Mexico. They were all different. It was really special that they got to meet her, and our students were very excited to see their artwork displayed in an art gallery to be shared with the community.”
The students’ work will be on display through Feb. 10.

La creatividad de 48 artistas de San Antonio ISD se exhibe en la Biblioteca Central. Los estudiantes de SAISD produjeron nueve de las 10 mejores piezas premiadas y 48 de las 60 piezas exhibidas para la parte estudiantil Imagínate de la exposición honrando la inspiración de la profesora emérita de UTSA, la Dra. Ellen Riojas Clark.
Se recibieron más de 400 inscripciones de distritos escolares de toda la ciudad, lo que permitió a los estudiantes pintar, dibujar y crear utilizando la misma base: un dibujo lineal de la dra. Clark. Los ganadores fueron elegidos en función de su “atención artística e imaginación” para crear una pieza que realmente se destacara, dijo la dra. Patricia Sánchez, presidenta de Estudios Biculturales y Bilingües de UTSA, en la ceremonia de premiación el 3 de febrero.
En total, se exhiben ocho piezas de Bonham Academy, 16 piezas de Graebner Elementary, 19 piezas de Irving Dual Language Academy, cuatro de Twain Dual Language Academy y una de Rodriguez Montessori.
“Su arte es asombroso”, dijo el curador Vincent Solis a los estudiantes. “Me divertí mucho oraganizando todo”.
Los 10 mejores estudiantes recibieron premios que incluyeron materiales de arte, artículos de UTSA, libros y becas (para estudiantes de 7 años en adelante) para clases de arte en el UTSA Southwest Campus. La Escuela Primaria Graebner llevó a sus jóvenes artistas en un autobús a la recepción, donde tuvieron la oportunidad de interactuar con la dra. Clark, quien los animó a todos a imaginar su futuro.
“Esta fue una gran oportunidad para que nuestros artistas de Griffin mostraran su creatividad y talento”, dijo la profesora de arte de Graebner, Celeste Sarabia. “Lo que más me llamó la atención de su obra de arte fue que cada estudiante llevó a la dra. Clark a una aventura diferente, en algunos casos llevándola a su mundo. Un estudiante la dibujó en un campo de fútbol, ??otro estudiante la dibujó en México. Todas eran diferentes. ?Fue realmente especial poder conocerla y nuestros estudiantes estaban muy emocionados de ver sus obras de arte expuestas en una galería de arte para compartirlas con la comunidad”.
El trabajo de los estudiantes estará en exhibición hasta el 10 de febrero.
