Eduardo Ramos
Ever since he was a small child, Eduardo Ramos has had an interest in puzzles. And now, the Fox Tech High School Class of 2020 valedictorian is taking his puzzle-solving skills to a whole new level as a neuroscience major at The University of Texas Austin this fall.
“The brain itself is a complex puzzle,” Eduardo said. “It’s really interesting. And here at Fox Tech, I found a passion for medicine, too. Plus, as a neurosurgeon, you get to help people and make an impact on your community.”
As part of the Fox Tech Health Professions Magnet, Ramos will be graduating with certification as a medical assistant. His interest in medicine and technology was partially rooted when he was around 10 years old and his infant sister was hospitalized for over two weeks.
“Her condition was critical, and she had to stay in the hospital because of phlegm in her lungs,” he recalled. “She had a full recovery in the end, but one of the reasons is because those doctors were there to help her. After seeing how much they did for her, I decided I wanted to contribute to society by being a doctor and helping people.”
His sister, now a third-grader at the Advanced Learning Academy at Euclid, will be coming to the Advanced Learning Academy at Fox Tech campus next year. Eduardo currently has another sibling at the Fox Tech campus – his younger brother is a junior this year. They play together on the school’s soccer team, which just began this year after a hiatus at the campus.
“I have been playing in club soccer for year, and this was my first year playing at Fox Tech,” said Eduardo. “It’s such a great experience - going to all the different campuses, meeting new people, making new friends with other classmates from other grades. I love getting to play with my brother. We trained together for a big part of our lives, and we are synchronized. He knows what I want to do, and I know what he wanted to do; it is a lot of fun playing with him.”
Eduardo hopes to try out for the Texas Men’s Soccer team when he gets to UT, as well as participate in club running.
“One of the most important things is staying active and doing sports in college will help me stay active,” he said.
Eduardo says that thanks to his time at Fox Tech, both his mind and his body feel prepared for college.
“The dual credit courses, the AP courses - especially AP Biology - showed me how it actually is out there [in college]. With the dual credit classes I took through Fox Tech I had actual college professors teaching me at UTSA. These classes not only gave me college credit, at the same time, they gave me a taste of what the next step is. I feel more ready than the average student when it comes to college. And just like I’m here leaving a mark at Fox Tech, I want to leave a mark at college.”
