In his own words...
The band hall is a place I have called home since sophomore year of high school. It is somewhere I have gone daily to not only practice my instrument, but to communicate with directors and create incredible friendships. The teachers that have impacted my mindset the most are the band directors.
For example, one thing my head band director has always stated is, “Although you might mess up, if you’re confident it shows you have a passion for what you are doing.”
However, he wasn’t just referring to my instrument playing. He was teaching me a life lesson on the importance of confidence in any setting. This understanding also helped me to create many friendships throughout high school.
When I first joined the band, I was a shy kid who never talked to band members other than the ones I knew from around the school. However, due to the lesson from my director, I started to talk to one new student every day of practice until I had spoken with every member.
Three years later, I have some of the greatest friends that have supported and influenced me like family such as a sophomore in college who still communicates with me regularly. The band hall itself holds significant meaning to me, but the students and directors that surround me there have helped me develop into a better communicator, friend, and overall student in high school.
