In his own words...

The importance of hard work is often overshadowed by the natural gift of intelligence. During my time in high school, I have learned how valuable drive and determination are in order to succeed in life. Even if you do not believe that you possess natural talent, you can prove to yourself that you are worthy of being named one of the best among your peers. I have earned the right to attend college by never giving up and constantly pushing myself to be the best at what I do.

Academics were never my strong suit while growing up. I always performed adequately, but never to the point where I was recognized as gifted or inherently intelligent. It was not until I joined band that I realized that I was capable of being the best. Being in band helped me continue to push myself forward without having to be incentivized. I did not excel because I had to, I did it because I wanted to. I continued to grow as both a person and as a student by constantly studying and going beyond what felt like my limit. It did not matter how much I felt like giving up, I knew that I could not give up and let all my hard work go to waste.

Band has done so much for me, and I will forever be grateful for everything that it has taught me and all the people that it has allowed me to meet. Music has quickly become what I am most passionate about and it has kept me from failing at everything else that I do. Before I performed well academically, band was the only thing that was able to keep my attention. Everything I learned in band translated to what I was doing in school. Self-doubt was a big struggle for me through middle school and even some of high school, but band and its amazing teachers taught me how to believe in myself. I will always be thankful for learning how to be confident and self-assured.

I got to where I am not by relying on talent, but by diligently working in order to be better than the rest. School has never been easy for me, but I can now say that I am proud of everything that I have accomplished in my high school career.
