How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?
I’ve been in SAISD since elementary school. I went to Graebner Elementary and Harris Middle School and now Brackenridge. SAISD has offered me a diverse group of people to meet — teachers, students, faculty and staff. I’ve seen all walks of life and learned everybody’s story. I’ve had new experiences, made great friends, and the education has been amazing and opened my eyes to new passions and interests. I took advantage of the Early College program. I wanted to get ahead in my path of college and earn my associate degree early. I cut time down on college and costs. It has been a great experience going through the college life even though I’m in high school. We got bussed to St. Philip’s where we took classes with the college professors, and it’s been a blast being over there.
Who has been most influential to you in your education this far?
My parents have been the most influential for me. My parents had me at a really young age and all throughout my life they’ve continued to instill in me the skills and values that I needed when moving through the education process.
My mom went back to school while working two jobs. My dad pursued an associate degree to become a firefighter. My father is now a firefighter who works for Olmos Park and my mother is the school nurse for Jefferson High School.
Seeing both my parents go back to school — the late nights, and early mornings — has motivated me to continue my education and it’s shown me that with an education, the possibilities are endless.
They never shied away from pushing me to be the best and to strive for greatness. They’ve continued to push me through this process and have shown me continuous support and love and I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me.
