Student Ambassador
Briana Benavides

Briana will continue in the workforce and has plans to attend San Antonio College to become either a parole officer or a dental assistant. Her ultimate goal is to attend university to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome during your education so far and how did you overcome it?

The greatest challenge I overcame was dropping out of school, going back to school and finding out three months later that I was becoming a Mother. I was doing my hardest to finish school before my baby girl was here. During my pregnancy I still came to school, went to work at Goodwill Industries, did double shifts on the weekends all the while still creating my unborn daughter within me everyday. Sometimes I wanted to give up but I am so glad that I did not.

Who have been most influential to you in your education thus far and why? (family member, teacher, coach, etc.)

The most influential persons for my education have always been my parents. Even though I made mistakes, I still tried to make them proud. But if I can, I’ll thank this stranger. One day I was at work and I met a customer who randomly told me that it was not too late for me to go to school. He made me think about my possibilities and when I got home that day I told my mother that I was going to go back to school. I doubt if he realizes how important his words were.

As a leader of the class of 2022, what is your hope for the class of 2022 as they move on to the next chapter of their lives?

As a leader of the Class of 2022, I really hope my fellow classmates will keep moving forward, continue opening new doors and keep doing new things. I hope their curiosity will lead them down the path of success and that they will find peace and happiness in their lives.
