Travis Early College High School Valedictorian
Marissa Sanchez

Marissa will attend Texas A&M University at College Station and join the Corps of Cadets. She will major in neuroscience and wants to be a general surgeon.

How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?

I actually came to Travis Early College High School from out of district so my only exposure to SAISD schools is, in fact, Travis. I would say that this SAISD school has introduced me to the beginning of what a busy life is really like and how to even begin to prepare for that. These have been the most challenging academic years of my life and I am grateful. One only improves or grows when one is pushed to their limits.

Who has been the most influential to you in your education and why?

The most influential people in my education at present are by far my parents. More than anything else, education has always been the most important value of our household. As the youngest of three, my parents had time to further develop their expectations when they got to me. All three of us were compared to each other, but never maliciously. Such comparisons were only meant to show how we were all different from each other and could reach greater heights in whatever fields we so chose. I could not have made it to where I am in the way that I have without their support and encouragement.

As a leader of the Class of 2022, what is your hope for the Class of 2022 as they move on to the next chapter of their lives?

I hope the people of my class get to be happy. In whatever they do or do not choose to do with their lives, I hope they at least get to have happy ones. I hope they find success in whatever way that manifests for them personally. I hope they find people, places, and ideals to care for and about. I hope they can all find reasons to live, and to live well. Above all else, I hope life is as kind to them as possible, as they stumble their ways into becoming good people.
