Jean Esquibel Hercule Graduation Speaker

What are your plans for next year and why did you choose this path?

I am currently enrolled at St. Philip's College, where I'm pursuing a trades certification as an electrician. I chose this path because I've always been fascinated by electrical systems and enjoy hands-on work. Becoming an electrician not only aligns with my interests but also offers stable career opportunities in a field I find fulfilling.

How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?

The SAISD Adult Education Program has played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. They provided the academic support and resources I needed to advance and succeed. The teachers and staff at SAISD were instrumental in helping me understand and navigate the educational system, laying a strong foundation for my future success.

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome during your education so far and how did you overcome it?

Language barriers are one of the most significant challenges I've overcome during my education so far. English is not my first language, and I initially struggled with communication. However, through enrollment in ESL programs offered by SAISD, I gradually improved my language skills. Persistence and dedication helped me overcome this challenge, allowing me to engage in my studies fully.

What are your plans for next year and why did you choose this path?
Since I was young, I've been passionate about science. My dream is to study abroad in a country known for its academic excellence and scientific advancements and become a biotechnologist, using scientific methods to improve survival on Earth. My next goal is to earn a postgraduate degree so that I can confidently apply these methods in my field.

How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?
This past autumn, I was surprised to learn that SAISD would support me in obtaining my GED, so I reached out for more information. Initially uncertain about the teachers and topics, I soon became excited as I saw how they patiently guided us, offering detailed tips and solutions for each lesson. Today, I feel more confident in my knowledge, and I’m grateful for their dedication and the way they helped me overcome my weaknesses, teaching with integrity and perseverance.

As a leader of the Class of 2025, what is your hope for the Class of 2025 as they move on to the next chapter of their lives?
My advice for the class of 2025 is to take small steps, as they are the foundation of tomorrow's success. Learn from your mistakes and failures, using them as opportunities to improve. Always remain persistent, happy, and kind, as you never know who you’ll meet along the way.
