Forty-six campuses from across the district met at Hawthorne Academy to compete in the district’s annual Spanish Spelling Bee competition for a chance to move on to regional competition.
“I am pleased to see some students return to the event with a deeper understanding and appreciation for language and culture,” Martha Vasquez, Coordinator of World Languages, said. “I also enjoy seeing new participants give their best efforts to compete with enthusiasm and with a positive attitude towards their peers.”
Local dignitaries served as judges of the event, including Dr. Ruben Minutti, General Consul from the Mexican Consulate in San Antonio, Ingeniera Paula De Gortari, Director of UNAM University in San Antonio, and Jimena Carazo, also a member of the Mexican Consulate in San Antonio.
Every first-place winner from this competition will represent the district at the regional event that will be held on Feb. 2, 2022 at the ESC-Region 20 headquarters.
“These events have shown to positively impact students’ character, boost their interest in reading, and improve their public speaking skills,” Vasquez said. “They also gain valuable experiences, and they compete with their peers and learn sportsmanship with a healthy competitive drive to succeed.”

Los estudiantes reciben altos honores en el Concurso de Deletreo en Español
Cuarenta y seis escuelas de todo el distrito se reunieron en Hawthorne Academy para competir en el concurso anual de Deletreo en Español a fin de tener la oportunidad de avanzar a la competencia regional.
“Me complace ver que algunos estudiantes regresen al evento con una comprensión y un aprecio más profundos por el idioma y la cultura”, dijo Martha Vasquez, Coordinadora de Idiomas del Mundo. “También disfruto ver que nuevos participantes hagan su mejor esfuerzo para competir con entusiasmo y con una actitud positiva hacia sus compañeros”.
Los dignatarios locales sirvieron como jueces en el evento, entre ellos el Dr. Ruben Minutti, Cónsul General del Consulado Mexicano en San Antonio; la Ingeniera Paula De Gortari, Directora de la UNAM en San Antonio; y Jimena Carazo, miembro del Consulado Mexicano en San Antonio.
Cada ganador de primer lugar en este concurso representará al distrito en el evento regional que se llevará a cabo el 2 de feb. de 2022 en la sede de ESC-Región 20.
“Estos eventos han demostrado tener un impacto positivo sobre el carácter de los estudiantes, aumentan su interés en la lectura y mejoran sus habilidades para hablar en público”, dijo Vasquez. “También reciben experiencias valiosas, compiten con sus compañeros y aprenden sobre el espíritu deportivo con un impulso competitivo para lograr el éxito”.
