SAISD family members honored as 'SA Lights'

Noah Lipman SA LightTwo San Antonio ISD family members have been honored in the inaugural class of the San Antonio Express-News SA Lights awards. The program’s virtual gala was posted to YouTube Dec. 9.

 

Patti Radle, District 5 Trustee and former board president, and Highlands High School social studies teacher Noah Lipman were both among the 12 honorees for the SA Lights Class of 2021. The program honored individuals in four areas who were finding new ways to tackle challenges during the pandemic in food security, housing, education, and economic innovation. The Express-News sought nominations from the community and wrote stories about each of the nominees throughout the fall, culminating with the video gala.

 

Radle, and her husband, Rod, were among four honorees for their contributions in housing with their nonprofit, Inner City Development. You can read a story about them here

 

Lipman was among the four honorees for his work teaching Advanced Placement courses at Highlands. He teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History, AP U.S. Government and Politics, and AP Macro Economics. The retired New York attorney is also a year-round consultant for AP. In addition to the print story about him, the online gala featured a special video story about his work. 

 

SAISD partner Gardopia Gardens and its work at Young Women’s Leadership Academy Primary were also featured in the video, as founder Stephen Lucke was honored for his contributions to food security. You can watch the story from the YWLA Primary Smart Farm here

 

The Express-News SA Lights Class of 2021 awards were presented in partnership with Broadway Bank, Greater SATX, and UT Health.
