On the second day of school closure due to inclement weather, San Antonio ISD's Child Nutrition Services staff mobilized to take weekend meals to children in our area. Staff operated a curbside meal distribution on Friday, Feb. 4, at 13 campuses. 

"Today's meal service was a success!" said Jenny Arredondo, senior executive director of Child Nutrition Services. "Just a big thanks to the Child Nutrition workers who braved the cold."

Child Nutrition staff distributed 626 meal bundles that included a breakfast and lunch meal for a total of 1,252 meals. Arredondo said students received some of their favorite hot entrées like pizza, hot dogs and calzones. Additionally, breakfast cereal with milk, juice and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables were also distributed.  

The initiative involved a collaborative effort with facilities and custodial teams, who helped ensure buildings were open and functional, and with the SAISD Police Department, who provided security at each site.
