San Antonio ISD is the 2022 winner of a Texas Environmental Excellence Award in the Innovative Operations/Management category from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. SAISD Energy & Sustainability Director Aaron Stein, Senior Executive Director of Facilities Services Chris Salley, and Energy Manager Samuel Vargas attended the awards ceremony May 11 at the Austin Convention Center.
It’s the second energy-related award this semester for the district. Earlier this spring, SAISD was awarded "Outstanding School District" by the Texas Energy Summit for its energy savings and engagement of students in the process.
“The Facilities Services department is honored to have been acknowledged twice at the State level this year for our accomplishments in the areas of energy and sustainability,” Stein said. “What makes our program unique among school districts is the strong collaboration and partnership with our campuses to provide student engagement opportunities and this was definitely a factor in our receiving these awards. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received and look forward to building upon the success we’ve achieved to date.”
The district’s Energy & Sustainability program started in 2017. In that first year, the program was able to achieve over $1 million in energy savings. Since then, Energy & Sustainability has saved over 66 million kilowatt hours, 435 thousand therms of natural gas, and 46 million gallons of water. As a result, SAISD has seen over $1.7 million worth of energy rebates for the district — all the while continuing to protect the environment for future generations to enjoy.
Distrito recibe premio por excelencia medioambiental
San Antonio ISD es el ganador de un premio Texas Environmental Excellence Award para 2022 en la categoría de Operaciones/Administración Innovadoras por parte de la Comisión de Calidad Ambiental de Texas. El Director de Energía y Sostenibilidad de SAISD, Aaron Stein; el Director Ejecutivo Superior de Servicios de Instalaciones, Chris Salley; y el Gerente de Energía, Samuel Vargas, asistieron a la ceremonia de premios el 11 de mayo en el Austin Convention Center.
Es el segundo premio de energía que recibe el distrito este semestre. Esta primavera, SAISD recibió el premio de "Outstanding School District" por parte de la Texas Energy Summit por su conservación de energía y la participación de los estudiantes en el proceso.
“El Departamento de Servicios de Instalaciones está honrado de haber sido reconocido dos veces este año al nivel estatal por nuestros logros en las áreas de energía y sostenibilidad”, dijo Stein. “Lo que hace que nuestro programa se único entre los demás distritos escolares es la fuerte colaboración y asociación con nuestras escuelas para proporcionar oportunidades de participación estudiantil y este definitivamente fue un factor que nos ayudó a recibir estos premios. Estamos agradecidos por el apoyo que hemos recibido y estamos ansiosos de seguir edificando a partir del éxito que hemos logrado hasta la fecha”.
El programa de Energía y Sostenibilidad del distrito comenzó en 2017. El primer año, el programa pudo lograr más de $1 millón de dólares en ahorros de energía. Desde entonces, el programa de Energía y Sostenibilidad ha ahorrado más de 66 kilovatios-hora, 435,000 termias de gas natural y 46 millones de agua.
