Bexar County's new BiblioTech digital library, The Judge Nelson and Tracy Wolff BiblioTech EDU, opened Dec. 6 at the Fox Tech campus.
Community members came to celebrate the grand opening with student performances, building tours, and technology demonstrations.
BiblioTech EDU will serve the downtown area and will function as a hands-on, interactive educational space, serving students in grades 4-12 from the three schools housed on the Fox Tech campus. During the school hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., BiblioTech EDU will serve as the campus hub for instruction, research, and learning enrichment programs for students and their families. BiblioTech EDU will offer SAISD a digital library collection to support curricular programs, and the facility will provide innovative learning spaces.
“It is an amazing facility,” Superintendent Jaime Aquino said. “This facility is going to allow us to continue making miracles happen for all our kids and it’s going to give them the gift of reading, and that’s the best gift because it is a gift that will last a lifetime.”
During non-school hours from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the general public will have free access to library resources and technology, as well as the library space amenities including a recording studio, study rooms, community room, makerspace and robotics room.
In November 2019, SAISD Trustees approved the Development and Shared Use Agreement between the district and Bexar County to establish and operate the first BiblioTech EDU, a 21st-century flexible collaborative learning commons, in the 8,400-square-foot library space at Fox Tech.
It is the fourth BiblioTech in San Antonio. The first Bexar County BiblioTech opened in 2013 and was recognized as the first all-digital public library in the United States. All four BiblioTech locations provide technology access for Bexar County residents to enhance education and literacy, promote reading as recreation, and equip all members of our community with necessary tools to thrive as citizens of the digital age.
