Enedina Moreno’s children follow the family legacy of being a part of the SAISD familia. Four of her children already graduated from Brackenridge High School, her alma mater. Currently, two younger children attend Herff Elementary, and Moreno says it’s a perfect fit for her family.

“I chose Herff because it’s a dual language campus. I need them to be fluent in both English and Spanish,” Moreno said. 

She particularly loves the teachers and the welcoming feeling she receives from the school.  

“My son’s 5th grade teacher Ms. Garza is phenomenal. She pushes the kids to be their best,” Moreno says. 

“It puts me at ease that I can talk to the teachers about anything involving my kids. They can tell me how I can help them be successful in class,” Moreno continued. “I can talk confidently to SAISD staff because I know they care.”

She also benefits from parent camaraderie. 

“We have a parents group chat,” Moreno said. “We keep each other updated with events and planning.”

These days, parents have options where they can send their kids to school. For Moreno, the decision was easy.

“We are a family here at Herff. Feels like home to me,” she said. “My kids know I’m here all the time. I even have the phone numbers of teachers that my kids don’t have. That’s how close we are here. They treat you like family here.”

Los hijos de Enedina Moreno siguen el legado familiar de ser parte de SAISD Familia. Cuatro de sus hijos ya se graduaron de Brackenridge High School, su alma mater. Actualmente, dos niños más pequeños asisten a la escuela primaria Herff, y Moreno dice que encaja perfectamente con su familia.

“Elegí Herff porque es un campus bilingüe. Necesito que hablen inglés y español con fluidez”, dijo Moreno.

Ella ama particularmente a los maestros y el sentimiento de bienvenida que recibe de la escuela.

“La maestra de quinto grado de mi hijo, la Sra. Garza, es fenomenal. Ella empuja a los niños a dar lo mejor de sí mismos”, dice Moreno.

“Me tranquiliza poder hablar con los maestros sobre cualquier cosa que involucre a mis hijos. Pueden decirme cómo puedo ayudarlos a tener éxito en la clase”, continuó Moreno. “Puedo hablar con confianza con el personal de SAISD porque sé que les importa”.

Ella también se beneficia de la camaradería de los padres.

“Tenemos un chat grupal para padres”, dijo Moreno. “Nos mantenemos actualizados con los eventos y la planificación”.

En estos días, los padres tienen opciones para enviar a sus hijos a la escuela. Para Moreno, la decisión fue fácil.

“Somos una familia aquí en Herff. Me siento como en casa”, dijo. “Mis hijos saben que estoy aquí todo el tiempo. Incluso tengo los números de teléfono de los maestros que mis hijos no tienen. Así de cerca estamos aquí. Aquí te tratan como a una familia”.
