As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, San Antonio ISD recognized its outstanding first-year Rising Star teachers. Fifty-three teachers were honored May 10 at the Alamo Convocation Center.

The Rising Star award honors teachers who are still completing their first year of teaching. Principals nominate their finest first-year teachers who already demonstrate excellent practices. Honorees received an SAISD star key ring, a certificate of recognition, and a yard sign for their homes.

Como parte de la Semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros, San Antonio ISD reconoció a sus maestros destacados Rising Star de primer año. Cincuenta y tres maestros fueron homenajeados el 10 de mayo en el Alamo Convocation Center.

 
El premio de Rising Star reconoce a los maestros que aún están completando su primer año de enseñanza. Los directores nominan a sus mejores maestros de primer año quienes ya demuestran prácticas excelentes. Los homenajeados recibieron un llavero con la estrella de SAISD, un certificado de reconocimiento y un letrero para el jardín de sus hogares.

2022-2023 District Rising Star Winners / Ganadores de Rising Star del distrito    

Early Childhood Education Level: Abigail Saldivar, Douglass Elementary 
“Ms. Saldivar takes time to get to know her students individually,” principal Dr. Stephanie Ratliff said. “With this knowledge, she adjusts the learning environment to ensure her students are able to learn and grow daily. Ms. Saldivar doesn’t just get to know students, she gets to know families. She reaches out to families on a daily basis, even providing her own cell phone. She stays late to adjust the next day’s plans based on her students’ daily formative assessments. Teaching and learning are always occurring in Ms. Saldivar’s classroom.” 

"La Srta. Saldivar se toma el tiempo para conocer a sus estudiantes individualmente”, dijo la directora, la Dra. Elementary Level: Sandra Garcia, Foster Elementary 
“Ms. Garcia is building a community of learners,” principal Johnny Diaz said. “She articulates directions very well for our younger learners to have specific objectives to dial in to. She monitors aggressively. She has a positive attitude toward change and adapts quickly, as needed."

Garcia está construyendo una comunidad de aprendices”, dijo el director Johnny Diaz. “Ella articula muy bien las instrucciones para que nuestros pequeños aprendices tengan objetivos específicos. Middle School Level: Sienna Guerra, Young Women’s Leadership Academy 
“Ms. Sienna Guerra’s learning environment creates mathematicians,” head of school Delia Montelongo said. “As a first-year teacher, she has an uncanny ability to break down math concepts from students and can move from the theoretical to the practical problem-solving strategies. Ms. Guerra committed herself to building relationships with students to identify and address their needs. She meets students where they are at in their initial understanding and then works diligently to bring students up to their highest level.”
“Ms. Guerra does not wait to be asked to help; she jumps in when she sees a need. She reflects on her practice and welcomes feedback. Her willingness to receive feedback stems from her commitment to be the best teacher so that her students receive the best education at our academy.”

"El entorno de aprendizaje de la Srta. Sienna Guerra crea matemáticos”, dijo la directora de la escuela, Delia Montelongo. “Como maestra de primer año, tiene una habilidad asombrosa para analizar los conceptos matemáticos de los estudiantes y puede pasar de las estrategias teóricas a las prácticas para resolver problemas.  High School Level: Roberto Coronado, Highlands High School 
“Mr. Coronado teaches engineering and robotics,” principal Dr. Penny Pruitt said. “He consistently integrates his learning objectives with other disciplines. He challenges his students and provides them opportunities, and he makes them believe they can be successful. He has an outstanding learning environment. He provides a positive, safe space that students want to be in. They want to be in class, and they are excited to be there.”

"El Sr. Coronado enseña ingeniería y robótica”, dijo la directora Dra. Penny Pruitt. “Integra constantemente sus objetivos de aprendizaje con otras disciplinas. Desafía a sus alumnos y les brinda oportunidades, y les hace creer que pueden tener éxito. Tiene un excelente ambiente de aprendizaje. Proporciona un espacio positivo y seguro en el que los estudiantes quieren estar. Quieren estar en clase y están emocionados de estar allí”.
