In 31 years at Harris Middle School, Robert Moszee has seen a lot of things. But one thing he didn’t expect to see was his name on the new scoreboard on the football field unveiled at the Harris Centennial Celebration this fall.

“We’ve got some sneaky folks here at Harris,” Moszee, the school’s athletic coordinator, said. “They did a good job of keeping quiet about the whole event.”

Moszee, a district alumnus, has been an integral part of Harris for three decades, all of them spent as an  in-school suspension teacher and a coach. 

He saw a lot of the district in his youth. He attended first, second and third grade at Washington Elementary; fourth, fifth and sixth at Herff Elementary; seventh at Poe Middle School; and eighth and ninth at Page Middle School before attending Brackenridge High School and graduating in 1974. At Brack, he excelled in both football and track.

“Competing in sports prepares one for life,” Moszee said. “It teaches you how to be humble in success. It teaches you how to deal with pain and sorrow in a loss. It teaches you how to be resilient in bouncing back from a setback.”

In his time at Harris, there have been many successes. His teams have won seven zone championships in football, eight in cross country, five in basketball, nine in track, and one in soccer. Harris has also won 21 district golf championships in a row. 

What’s kept him at Harris so long? The people. 

“Harris has been a special place for me,” Moszee said. “I have been fortunate to work with some tremendous individuals. I also love the students and community.”

As a new scoreboard at Harris honors this man who has made a difference in the lives of so many, he vows to stay there until he finally decides to retire, someday.

“Over the years, I’ve had opportunities to go somewhere else, but I’ve never had the urge to leave Harris,” Moszee said. “Retirement for me is right around the corner. But until that time comes, I will continue to do what I’ve done for the past 31 years — motivate and inspire students at Harris Middle School to be a success in life.”

En 31 años en Harris Middle School, Robert Moszee ha visto muchas cosas. Pero una cosa que no esperaba ver era su nombre en el nuevo marcador en el campo de fútbol presentado en la Celebración del Centenario de Harris este otoño.

“Aquí en Harris tenemos gente astuta”, dijo Moszee, el coordinador deportivo de la escuela. “Hicieron un buen trabajo al guardar silencio sobre todo el evento”.

Moszee, un exalumno del distrito ha sido una parte integral de Harris durante tres décadas, todas ellas como maestro de suspensión en la escuela y entrenador. 

Vio mucho del distrito en su juventud. Asistió a primero, segundo y tercer grado en la escuela Washington Elementary; cuarto, quinto y sexto en la escuela Herff Elementary; séptimo en la escuela Poe Middle School; y octavo y noveno en Page Middle School antes de asistir a Brackenridge High School y graduarse en 1974. En Brack se destacó tanto en fútbol como en atletismo.

 “Competir en deportes te prepara para la vida”, dijo Moszee. “Te enseña cómo ser humilde en el éxito. Te enseña cómo lidiar con el dolor y la tristeza ante una pérdida. Te enseña cómo ser resiliente para recuperarte de un revés”.

En el tiempo que lleva en Harris, ha cosechado muchos éxitos. Sus equipos han ganado siete campeonatos de zona en fútbol, ocho en Cross Country, cinco en baloncesto, nueve en atletismo y uno en fútbol. Harris también ha ganado 21 campeonatos de golf de distrito consecutivos. 

¿Qué lo mantuvo en Harris tanto tiempo? Las personas. 

"Harris ha sido un lugar especial para mí", dijo Moszee. “He tenido la suerte de trabajar con personas extraordinarias. También amo a los estudiantes y a la comunidad”.

Mientras un nuevo marcador en Harris honra a este hombre que ha marcado una diferencia en las vidas de tantas personas, él promete permanecer allí hasta que finalmente decida retirarse, algún día.

"A lo largo de los años, he tenido oportunidades de ir a otro sitio, pero nunca he tenido el impulso de dejar Harris", dijo Moszee. "La jubilación para mí está a la vuelta de la esquina. Pero hasta que llegue ese momento, seguiré haciendo lo que he hecho durante los últimos 31 años: motivar e inspirar a los estudiantes de Harris Middle School para que tengan éxito en la vida".
