The Construction programs at Lanier and Sam Houston high schools are working with the San Antonio chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a volunteer organization with a mission to provide twin beds and brand new bedding to children.

The collaboration involves three components: 
• Twin bed construction and donation events
• Twin “Bed in a Bag” bedding set and pillow drive (brand new items)
• Applications from families for the donated beds and pillows

Construction students from each high school and SHP volunteers will build 20 twin beds. A total of 40 twin beds will be donated at the completion of the two build days.

The construction events will be held on the following dates:
• Sam Houston High School, Feb. 13
• Lanier High School, ongoing

Interested individuals may participate in the project by contributing a “Bed in a Bag” twin set, which includes a comforter and sheets, and/or a pillow. The project goal is to collect enough brand new Bed in a Bag sets and brand new pillows for each of the 40 twin beds.

• SAISD Central Office lobby, 514 W. Quincy St., 78215
• Sam Houston High School main office, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220
• Lanier High School main office, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd., 78207

Families in need of beds for their children may apply for consideration through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization.

Recipient criteria:
• Location: Must live near one of the SHP chapters. (There is a San Antonio chapter.)
• Living environment: Must have an accessible house or apartment with a room large enough to fit one of the beds.
• Contact: SHP must be able to contact the recipient by phone, text, or email.
• Application: Potential recipients will need to complete an online SHP application form. If the application is accepted, recipient will need to sign an Indemnification Release Form prior to delivery. 
• Ages: Kids need to be 3-17 years old.
