Davis Middle School home to new health clinic

davisThanks to a collaboration between San Antonio ISD and University Health System (UHS), SAISD students and staff now have access to a second school-based health clinic where they can seek medical attention for a variety of minor health conditions. Tafolla Middle School has been serving the SAISD community since February, and starting Oct. 5, the Health Center East at Davis Middle School will be offering services as well.

The new health center will launch its soft-opening Oct. 5-9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for nurse visits and immunizations only. Starting Oct. 12, the center will expand its services to include  care for both adults and children for the following issues:

• Minor acute care (ear infections, throat infections, asthma, bronchitis)
• Physical exams/well-child checkups
• Primary Care
• Immunizations
• Sports physicals
• Health education on nutrition, disease and injury prevention
• Medication prescriptions as needed

School nurses will be able to send children to Health Center East at Davis after they have assessed the student and determined they need to be seen by a medical provider. Parents can also make appointments by calling 210-644-2050. The Health Center east will be staff by at least three UHS personnel.

The cost of a visit to either health center will depend on a patient’s insurance status at the time of the visit. SAISD staff members who would like to be seen at the clinic should check their insurance plan as UHS is not in network with all plans. Private insurance, CHIP, Medicaid, and cash payment arrangements are all accepted. For the underinsured or uninsured, Health Center East at Davis staff can help patients make an account with Bexar County’s CareLink financial assistance program.

The health center is located on the Davis campus at 4702 E. Houston Street, San Antonio, Texas, 78220.
