On Friday, March 26, SAISD will be flying our flags at half-staff to honor the lives tragically cut short in Atlanta as the result of another senseless shooting spree against people of color. Most of the victims were of Asian descent and most were women. And, too soon after, another mass shooting happened in Colorado.

We stand in solemn solidarity with these victims and their families, and we will never be silent against horrific acts. Violence affects us all – no matter where it happens or to whom it happens. This is not the America we aspire to be, and we must not let it define who we are. There is a strength in diversity stronger than any tensions that divide us. May we embrace one another with a real commitment to safe, healthy and peaceful communities.

El viernes 26 de marzo, SAISD tendrá nuestras banderas a media asta para honrar las vidas que trágicamente se acortaron en Atlanta como resultado de otra matanza insensata contra personas de color. La mayoría de las víctimas eran mujeres de ascendencia asiática. Y después de muy poco tiempo, otra matanza ocurrió en Colorado.

Expresamos nuestra solidaridad solemne con las víctimas y sus familias, y nunca permaneceremos callados ante actos tan atroces. La violencia nos afecta a todos, sin importar dónde ocurra o a quién. Esta no es la nación que aspiramos ser, y no debemos dejar que defina quiénes somos. La fuerza que derivamos de la diversidad es más fuerte que cualquier tensión que busque dividirnos. Debemos aceptarnos unos a otros con un verdadero compromiso a las comunidades seguras, saludables y pacíficas.
