Levolea Wallace, senior at Sam Houston High School, is the first-ever SAISD student to receive a Trinity Tower Scholarship
San Antonio ISD is proud to announce that Sam Houston High School senior Levolea Wallace has been named the District's very first Trinity Tower Scholarship recipient. Out of the 291 students who reached the final round of competition, only 27 were granted a scholarship.
“I am blessed, honestly,” said Levolea. “I have been working really hard in school, and I am happy that they picked me because there are a lot of people who are working hard in school. I wanted to compete for this scholarship because I wanted to try rather than not do it at all.”
As a Trinity Tower Scholar, Levolea has been awarded a full, four-year tuition scholarship to the university, which has been named as one of the top 100 college and universities in the nation by College Consensus and in the top 50 Liberal Arts Colleges in the nation by the Wall Street Journal. One year at Trinity has an estimated price tag of $62,596.
“It was an honor to meet Levolea via the Tower Scholars event,” said Angela Breidenstein, professor and interim chair of Trinity’s Department of Education. “Her engagement, curiosity, analysis, and energy were terrific as our group discussed teacher preparation (great teachers aren't born, they are made!). Levolea and all the students were so impressive. I'm so excited to be able to get to know her and them when they join us at Trinity as first-year students.”
Levolea hopes to play volleyball, her passion, while at Trinity. While at Sam Houston, she also played basketball and softball, currently serves as the track manager, is part of the National Honor Society, and is the Class of 2021 valedictorian.
“The students who were invited to compete in the scholarship day are the highest achieving of all of our applicants, so the fact that Levolea stood out amongst that already incredibly strong group is all the more impressive,” said Sarah Yaccino, Trinity University admissions counselor.
Levolea says she isn’t quite sure what she wants to major in while at Trinity but is excited to explore all of her interests.
“That’s a big deal for me, choosing my major. I have been doing quizzes online,” Levolea said with a laugh.
But in the end, Levolea realizes that the quizzes alone won’t determine her major. “I want to figure it out for myself,” she said.
Durquia Guillen, college bound advisor at Sam Houston, met Levolea when she was a ninth-grader at Sam Houston and says that she is just a phenomenal person.
“She is a really hard worker, great student, and I am excited to see what her future holds,” Guillen said. "The wonderful thing about a liberal arts school is that you really can explore your options. Levolea has such a love of learning; I am so excited for her to be on the campus and learn as much as she can and see where her passion lies. It could be math, it could be sciences, it could be humanities. I mean, it could be anything. Whatever she does, she is going to excel.”

Es un orgullo para San Antonio ISD anunciar que Levolea Wallace, estudiante de último año en Sam Houston High School, ha sido nombrada la primera ganadora del Distrito de la beca Trinity Tower. De los 291 estudiantes que llegaron a la última ronda del concurso, solo 27 recibieron una beca.
“Realmente es una bendición”, dijo Levolea. “Me he estado esforzando mucho en la escuela, y estoy contenta de que me eligieron porque hay muchas personas que se esfuerzan mucho en la escuela. Quería competir por esta beca porque sería mejor intentarlo que no hacer nada”.
Como ganadora de la beca Trinity Tower, Levolea ha recibido una beca completa de cuatro años para la matriculación de la universidad, la cual ha sido nombrada una de las 100 universidades superiores en la nación por el College Consensus y una de las 50 universidades superiores en la nación de artes liberales por el Wall Street Journal. Un año en Trinity tiene un costo estimado de $62,596.
“Fue un honor conocer a Levolea por medio del evento de Estudiantes Tower”, dijo Angela Breidenstein, profesora y presidenta interina del Departamento de Educación de Trinity. “Su participación, curiosidad, análisis y energía fueron geniales a medida que nuestro grupo conversó sobre la preparación para maestros (los grandes maestros no nacen, ¡se hacen!). Levolea y todos los estudiantes fueron tan impresionantes. Estoy tan emocionada de conocerla a ella y a los demás cuando lleguen a Trinity como estudiantes de primer año”.
Levolea espera jugar voleibol, su pasión, mientras está en Trinity. En Sam Houston también juega baloncesto y softball, actualmente sirve como gerente de atletismo, es parte de la Sociedad Nacional de Honor y es la estudiante con el promedio más alto en la Clase de 2021.
“A los estudiantes a los que se les invitó competir en el día de la beca son los estudiantes más sobresalientes de todos los que solicitaron, así que el hecho de que Levolea se haya destacado dentro de un grupo bastante increíble es todavía más impresionante”, dijo Sarah Yaccino, consejera de admisiones en Trinity University.
Levolea dice que aún no está muy segura de qué quiere estudiar en Trinity, pero está emocionada de explorar todos sus intereses.
“Eso es algo muy importante para mí, elegir mi carrera. He estado tomando pruebas en línea”, dijo Levolea con una sonrisa. Pero, al fin y al cabo, Levolea sabe que las pruebas no determinarán su carrera. “Quiero averiguarlo por mí misma”, dijo.
Durquia Guillen, consejera universitaria en Sam Houston, conoció a Levolea cuando ella era estudiante de primer año en Sam Houston y dice que ella es una persona fenomenal.
“Es muy trabajadora, una excelente estudiante, y estoy emocionada de ver qué le depara el futuro”, dijo Guillen. "La parte maravillosa de una escuela de artes liberales es que realmente puedes explorar tus opciones. Levolea tiene un amor por el aprendizaje; estoy tan emocionada de que esté en el campus y aprenda lo más que pueda y ver cuál es su pasión. Podrían ser las matemáticas, podrían ser las ciencias o las humanidades. Podría ser cualquier cosa. Lo que sea que haga, va a sobresalir”.
