Dual Language is a bilingual program that develops literacy and content in two languages.

“In SAISD, we follow an 80/20 model in Spanish and English,” said Mónica Valderrama, Dual Language coordinator. “Our model focuses on more Spanish in the early grades and gradually increases English until they reach third grade where students are taught 50/50 in Spanish and English.”

Dual Language Education is an effective approach to develop language proficiency and literacy in two languages. The program integrates native English speakers and native Spanish speakers for academic content instruction through both languages. Both English learners and native English speakers learn together, learn from each other, and use each other as language and cultural resources.

This week’s meetings will cover the benefits of dual language, research supporting dual language, classroom strategies and frequently asked questions. Click on the flyer below to attend one of the free parent information sessions.
