Please join San Antonio ISD’s Department of SEAD & Restorative Practices’ Parent Support Program for an opportunity to connect with in-District support and community agencies at the Virtual Parent Resource Fair. All parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome! The multi-day virtual event takes place June 8-10, 2021.

During this virtual event, daily webinars and live chats will offer parents, grandparents, and guardians an opportunity to gather information on a variety of topics and seek guidance from Parent Support Programs social workers. Additionally, the event will feature an Exhibitor Portal providing the opportunity for participants to explore in greater detail the various SAISD programs and community agencies during and after the event.
“The diligence, creativity, dedication and passion of the Parent Support Program team for this event, and the work in general, is inspiring and I am privileged to be a part of it,” said Cynthia Vollmer, social worker with SAISD.
Presentations will be given via Zoom on a variety of topics, including transition planning, bilingual and disability programming. There is a special session for grandparents raising grandchildren.

TUESDAY
Concerned Your Child May Have a Disability
Tuesday, June 8, 10 - 11 a.m.
This presentation will review the steps to follow if you suspect your child has a disability. Information about the timeline for requesting support, obtaining parent consent, completion of full individual evaluation and scheduling the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meeting.
Differences Between Disabilities
Tuesday, June 8, 6 - 7 p.m.
This session is an informational session for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. This session will provide parents and caregivers with an overview of the following diagnoses: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and Specific Learning Disabilities (LD).
Participants will leave the session with a better understanding and awareness of the eligibility, characteristics, educational considerations, and post-secondary outcomes of each disability. Following the presentation, participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions of the presenters.
WEDNESDAY
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Wednesday, June 9, 10 - 11 a.m.
In Texas, nearly 320,000 grandparents are raising their grandchildren, many without the involvement of their parents. The Executive Director of Texas Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and single grandmother Mercedes Bristol (raising 5 adopted grandchildren of her own) will speak to the challenges and joys of such a responsibility.
Setting Limits in the Home
Wednesday, June 9, 6 - 7 p.m.
Setting limits is a highly effective and positive way to communicate with a child in distress. Participants will learn strategies to remain focused and constructive instead of reactive during a stressful moment.
THURSDAY
Closing the Achievement Gap
Thursday, June 10, 10 - 11 a.m.
Do you know which program is the most effective, research-based model that is proven to close the achievement gap for students? In this session, participants will get an overview of the Dual Language Education Program model, and the amazing benefits that students receive by participating in this highly effective program.
Transition Planning
Thursday, June 10, 6 - 7 p.m.
What do your children want to be when they grow up? Participants will learn the formal process used to help students think about careers they are interested in. This plan is key to plan for their future life as an adult.
