San Antonio ISD, in collaboration with South Texas Allergy & Asthma Medical Professionals (STAAMP) plans to hold its first vaccine clinics for the 5- to 11-year-old age group beginning next week, so that children have access to both doses before winter break. This timing may give parents comfort and security during the holidays, especially if they plan to travel and celebrate with extended family.
These dates are contingent on STAAMP receiving timely shipment of the newly approved pediatric doses:
• Friday, Nov. 12, from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 19, from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During these clinics, STAAMP will communicate with families to schedule appointments for the second shot.
SAISD also will work with UT Health and the Center of Advanced Wellness to host additional clinics at some of its larger elementary school and academy locations. More information on these clinics will be shared as details are finalized.
Families will hear from their child’s principal with registration information. During registration, families also will be able to register their children ages 12 and older.
“As we have done throughout this pandemic, we are working closely with our local healthcare providers to offer access to COVID-19 vaccines to those who are eligible in an effort to keep our schools as safe as possible,” said Toni Thompson, SAISD associate superintendent for human capital management. “Vaccines are a critical tool to help keep children healthy and in school, protect their learning, and provide stability for families.”
