A partnership between SAISD and the San Antonio Food Bank will offer two mega food distribution events on Wednesday, Dec. 8 and again the following week on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The goal of these large food distribution events is to provide more than 1,000 SAISD families with turkey breasts and other holiday meal items in time for the holidays.

Elsa Griffin, SAISD director of family engagement, says that her department works tirelessly to understand the needs of the families they serve.

“Our FACE specialists and social workers are very attuned to our families’ needs and will pre-register those they have identified as needing access to food,” Griffin said. “Families can also pre-register themselves by visiting www.saisd.net/fooddistribution. We also have additional food inventory available so families that need this resource, but are unable to attend the mega distribution events, can receive non-perishable food to be delivered to their home by the FACE specialist or social worker.”

The San Antonio Food Bank is an invaluable resource in making the mega food distribution events possible for SAISD families. This time of year, it is especially important to helping students and their families.

“SAISD is such a great partner throughout the year, and we are proud to support their effort to reach families as the holiday break approaches,” said San Antonio Food Bank President and CEO Eric Cooper. “Together, we will turn hungry holidays into happy holidays.”

The mega food distribution events will take place from 9-11 a.m. at SAISD’s Alamo Stadium, located at 110 Tuleta Drive. These events are in addition to the meal bundles that the district’s Child Nutrition Services is also providing to families on other days.
