Subject Experts: SAISD Bond 2020 opportunities for small businesses

Experts:

April Alcorta, Assistant Director, Business Diversity Program 

These experts can provide tips and guidance to assist Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) or Small, Minority, Women-Owned, Disabled Veteran Businesses (SMWBEs) develop and recover their business post-COVID-19, prepare them to do business with local agencies and state entities, improve their skills, and gain insights on best practices. They can answer questions such as these:

• What opportunities does the 2020 Bond bring to small businesses and the community?
• How does a small business do business with SAISD?
• What upcoming opportunities does SAISD have for small businesses?
• How does a small business get certified as a Small, Minority-Owned, Woman-Owned Small Business Enterprise (SMWBE)?
• Tell me about SAISD’s upcoming workshops for business owners on these topics.

Jan. 15-17 (Sat-Mon) – SAISD COVID-19 mobile testing unit
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

San Antonio ISD launched a COVID-19 mobile testing unit with AccuReference for the spring semester. Holiday weekend hours are only available this first weekend of its launch. SAISD staff, students, and families may participate in drive-up COVID-19 testing. Staff and students receive free PCR or rapid tests; family members receive free PCR or $30 rapid tests.  

Jan. 17 (Mon) – SAISD schools and offices closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
All campuses and district offices will be closed in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. SAISD will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Jan. 18 (Tues) – SAISD Public Hearing and Board Meeting B
5:30 p.m., SAISD Board Room, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212

A public hearing on the 2020-2021 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) will be held prior to the regularly scheduled Board Meeting. Masks are required to enter.

Jan. 18-21 (Tues-Fri) – SAISD COVID-19 mobile testing unit

Parents of students who are transitioning into either kindergarten, sixth grade, or ninth grade are invited to learn what these transitioning years are like for their children. Topics will include important dates, program options, and key next steps. Students also will benefit from joining their grade-level session.

2-6 p.m., various locations, as shown below.

SAISD in collaboration with the Center of Advanced Wellness will provide full-service vaccinations for COVID-19 – including first and second doses, pediatric doses, and boosters – for eligible SAISD staff, students and family members.

Jan. 20-22 (Thurs-Sat) – High school production of the musical Grease
7 p.m., Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive, 78212

The acting talents of Edison High School theater students will be on display during the first musical performance in the school’s newly renovated theater, completed under Bond 2016. Tickets for the Grease musical are $8 for students and $12 for adults.
