April 8 (Fri) – SAISD schools and offices closed for Battle of Flowers Holiday
All campuses and district offices will be closed for the Battle of Flowers Holiday. SAISD will reopen Monday, April 11.

April 8-9 (Fri-Sat) – SAISD students at official Fiesta events or hosting Fiesta events on campus 
SAISD is ready to take center stage at Fiesta. The many talents of SAISD students will be on display during this year’s Fiesta festivities on the main stage at official events. From marching bands to mariachi ensembles, and from JROTC battalions to cheer and spirit groups, SAISD provides a primary presence of accomplishment for the entire city of San Antonio to enjoy. Here is the list of Fiesta events where SAISD students will perform.

April 7 (Thurs) 
6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Fiesta Battle of the Bands – All SAISD comprehensive high schools – Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212 

April 8 (Fri)

9:30 a.m., Fiesta Battle of Flowers Parade – All SAISD comprehensive high schools – Downtown San Antonio 

April 9 (Sat) 
9 a.m., King William Parade - Brackenridge High School Band - beginning on E. Guenther at Eagleland, the Parade travels through the King William Fair Zone, and ends on Adams at Eagleland. 
7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fiesta Flambeau Parade – All SAISD comprehensive high schools – Downtown San Antonio
o The Sam Houston High School JROTC will carry the Flambeau Parade Association flags.

April 11 (Mon) – High school students and future EMTs surprised with new mock ambulance
1 p.m., Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive, 78212

A short ribbon-cutting ceremony will introduce high school students to a new mock ambulance, with the functionality of a real ambulance in the back. The realistic setting includes a programmable electronic SIM-man manikin, so students learn how to respond to a variety of vital signs and medical symptoms. Instructors are able to monitor students’ performance through cameras and an off-ambulance screen to better prepare students for clinical time in the field with practicing medics. Note: This event is a prelude to a disaster drill involving EMT, health science, fire, and law students in partnership with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Acadian Ambulance and Airlife scheduled for Thursday, April 21; spectators will be able to watch from the bleachers.

April 11 (Mon) – SAISD Board Meeting A

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.

April 12 (Tues) – Parent workshop on academic success
2 p.m. via Zoom

The SAISD Family and Community Engagement Office holds free, one-hour parent training workshops on various topics of interest. This session will teach parents about the instructional tools and resources that will assist them and their student in monitoring the progress of learning at home. Information will be given about the available literacy and math adaptive curriculum programs and digital resources that are available to students through the district’s website.

April 12 and 14 (Tues, Thurs) – Free tax preparation at SAISD’s CAST Tech High School
4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. both days, CAST Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave, 78205 

This is the last week that CAST Tech High School is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site on its campus to help households making $65,000 or less file their income taxes for free. CAST Tech students in Principles of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Practicum of Business classes do the data entry, while supervised by tax experts. The program assisted 146 taxpayers last year and has a goal of 200 this year. For more information, call (210) 554-2700. April 14 (Thurs) – CAST Schools “Hire a High School Intern” information session for employers
8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Café College, 131 El Paso St., 78204

CAST Schools – which includes SAISD’s ALA and CAST Tech and CAST Med high schools – is hosting a breakfast for employers interested in creating a high school internship program. Participants will hear from employers currently running a program and will gain insights on how to create meaningful internship positions that prepare students for future careers, possibly even in their own companies.
