April 15 (Fri) – SAISD schools and offices closed for Easter Break
All campuses and district offices will be closed for Easter Break. SAISD will reopen for staff Monday, April 18. Students return Tuesday, April 19.

April 18 (Mon) – Principal receives Patriot Award from Department of Defense
8:30 a.m., Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson, 78201 

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, will present a "Patriot Award" to Jefferson High School Principal Ralf Halderman during a school faculty meeting. Halderman was nominated for the award by Carlos Hernandez, a Jefferson educator who also serves in the Navy Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer, because of the extraordinary support he receives from his principal. 

April 18 (Mon) – SAISD Instructional Fiesta and Salsa Cook-off
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, Lot B, 110 Tuleta Dr, 78212 

The SAISD Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Department is hosting a post-Fiesta event to celebrate the hard work of its instructional specialists. The main event is a Salsa Cook-off between various instructional specialist teams. Come sample some sizzling salsa if you dare!

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.

April 19 (Tues) – Parent workshop on the dangers of social media
6 p.m. via Zoom

The SAISD Family and Community Engagement Office holds free, one-hour parent training workshops on various topics of interest. This session will give parents an in-depth look at current social media trends and how they can escalate substance use and abuse among adolescents.

April 22 (Fri) – Young Women’s Leadership Academy celebrates AVID designation 
3 p.m., YWLA, 2123 W. Huisache Ave, 78201  

Prior to their campus spring carnival, students and families of Young Women’s Leadership Academy will celebrate their recent distinction of being named an AVID National Recognition Demonstration Site. AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination" and is best described as teaching best practices to high school students for college readiness. The AVID recognition means YWLA would be a place where other districts and administrators could visit to observe best practices in action. The campus would serve as a model for other schools to emulate. 

April 23 (Sat) – SAISD hosts ribbon cutting/open house tour of bond improvements
10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar Chavez Blvd., 78207

SAISD will commemorate the completion of campus improvements at Lanier High School, as a result of Phase 2 of the 2016 Bond Program. SAISD Trustee Patti Radle will join the principal, staff, students, and community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the newly renovated learning spaces. Attendees will enjoy student performances by Lanier’s JROTC, band, cheerleaders and pep squad. Music reminiscent of Friday Night lights will be performed by 8th-grade students from Tafolla and Rhodes middle schools and Crockett Academy. 

April 23 (Sat) – Pre-registered high school students to select prom attire from free pop-up shop 
9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar Chavez Blvd., 78207

Project Prom Dress San Antonio is hosting a free pop-up shop for high school students needing formalwear for prom. Students have pre-registered to come in, look around, try on a dress or suit, plus shoes, and walk out ready for Prom Night without paying a single penny. SAISD employee Ashley Johnson founded the organization in 2014. She knows from first-hand experience the real-life struggles families endure trying to make the prom experience special for their children.
