TODAY: April 22 (Fri) – Young Women’s Leadership Academy celebrates AVID designation; SAISD has most designations in Texas
3 p.m., YWLA, 2123 W. Huisache Ave, 78201

Following yesterday’s announcement of being named in the top 1 percent of high schools in the nation by The Challenge Index, students and families of Young Women’s Leadership Academy will celebrate another distinction – being named an AVID National Recognition Demonstration Site. AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination" and is best described as teaching best practices to high school students for college readiness. The AVID recognition means YWLA would serve as a model for other schools to emulate, and it is now the fourth campus in SAISD to earn this distinction. With four school designations, SAISD has the most national demonstration schools among school districts in Texas.
