Williams named new head football coach at Sam Houston High School
05/16/2022
WilliamsMay 16, 2022 – Jeremy D. Williams has been named head football coach and athletics boys coordinator at Sam Houston High School in San Antonio ISD.

It’s a homecoming of sorts for Williams. He returns to a Sam Houston football team where he served as assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020. Williams was part of the coaching regime that directed the Hurricanes to its last post-season tournament in 2018.

Most recently, Williams has served as an assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator at SAISD’s Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Wheatley since its inauguration season in 2020. He helped build the team in two short years to a state playoff berth in Class 4A as bi-district finalists in 2021.

Williams was a standout defensive back and running back at Dallas Carter High School. He went on to star at Baylor University, where he was a team captain and a two-time All-Big 12 honorable mention selection.

Under Williams, Sam Houston will run a fast-paced, explosive offense that has similarities to the Baylor Bears. On defense, athletes will be moved around for different schemes and play fast and physical.

“Sam Houston and the eastside has some of the best athletes in San Antonio,” said Coach Williams, who is married with two children. “We definitely know the standards of the past. We want to raise that bar, get back to the football playoffs and go a couple of rounds deep.”

“As athletic boys coordinator,” he continued, “we want to get basketball back to regionals, track back to state. And we want to continue to keep our soccer teams playing great. We just got to build it piece by piece, and I think we can build something very special.”

Prior to working in San Antonio, Williams worked as a defensive coach at Kyle, La Grange and Dallas Carter.

"Jeremy brings a great deal of enthusiasm and energy to this role,” said Todd Howey, SAISD senior executive director of Athletics. “He has a clear plan for athletic and academic success, and I am very excited for him, the student athletes, and the Sam Houston community."
