May 21 (Sat) – SAISD holds its biggest Teacher Job Fair of the year

San Antonio ISD is recruiting certified educators for the 2022-2023 school year. Limited pre-hire opportunities will be offered to qualified individuals. The district is recruiting for teachers, campus-based librarians, counselors, nurses, CTEs, speech language pathologists, and speech language pathologist assistants. May 21 (Sat) – SAISD partners with food bank for weekend distribution

In partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD is hosting a food distribution this weekend. All SAISD families are welcome. Distribution will take place on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

May 22 (Sun) – Storm Elementary art recognized at the McNay Art Museum Spotlight Program
1 p.m., McNay Art Museum, 6000 N. New Braunfels, 78209

Spotlight is an annual program at the McNay in which San Antonio area K-12 students make creative responses to one work of art in the museum’s collection. This year, students explored a bronze sculpture by African American artist Willie Cole, The Sole Sitter. The art works of Storm Elementary students will be on display during the Elementary Recognition portion of the Sunday Spotlight program.

May 23 (Mon) – Book festival authors visit high school

The 10th Annual San Antonio Book Festival, happening this weekend, will continue on Monday with an author visit with local high school students. Authors David Bowles and Raul the Third of “Clockwork Curandera” will be on the Lanier High School campus for a presentation. They will gift a signed copy of the book to all 9th- and 10th-graders. Special guests from the festival, City Council, and Commissioner’s Court also will be in attendance.

May 23-25 (Mon-Wed) – Youngest students welcome soon-to-be graduates for Senior Walks

There’s nothing like seeing seniors in their caps and gowns, beaming with pride just knowing their diploma is almost in hand. Soon-to-be graduates are scheduled to walk the halls of their former elementary schools, completing the circle of their K-12 education. This is the type of moment that inspires SAISD’s youngest learners to achieve the same goal.

May 24 (Tues) – Burbank High School seniors get first look at new Burbank campus
10 a.m., Burbank High School, 1007 Edwards, 78204

The Burbank High School Class of 2022 won't get the opportunity to attend school in the newly remodeled campus that was generated by the 2016 bond. Instead, the senior cohort are being gifted the opportunity of being the first to walk the halls together during a special, sneak peek tour. It will be the first look at the impressive structure that will house future graduating Burbank Bulldog classes for years to come.

May 24 (Tues) – Fox Tech High School honors distinguished alumnus
11 a.m., Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave., 78205

Distinguished alumnus Roy Barrera Sr. will be honored at his high school alma mater with a portrait unveiling. A reception will follow. Barrera is a prominent local attorney and a former Texas secretary of state.

May 25 (Wed) – YWLA holds community meeting on bond improvements
6 p.m., Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave., 78201

Community members are invited to a meeting to discuss and share ideas on how SAISD Bond 2020 will benefit the campus at Young Women’s Leadership Academy. Trustee Ed Garza and staff from Construction Services will lead the discussion. For more information, community members may email bond@saisd.net.

May 27 (Fri) – SAISD holds graduation celebration for Project SEARCH interns
12:30 p.m., The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, 333 N. Santa Rosa St., 78207

The hard work and accomplishments of Project SEARCH interns will be celebrated during this graduation ceremony. Project SEARCH is a program in collaboration with Texas Workforce that prepares students with special needs for full-time employment complete with benefits and retirement. Students take part by interning at an organization, like The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. They participate in three internship rotations at six weeks each. The graduation will be celebrated in the Goldsbury Center for Children and Families Building (CCF Building) on the 5th floor.

May 27 (Fri) – Maverick Elementary hosts "Career on Wheels" 
9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Maverick Elementary, 4107 Raleigh Pl., 78201 

Maverick Elementary is taking a new spin on Career Day with its "Career on Wheels" event. Instead of the usual presentation inside a classroom, "Career on Wheels" will move the action outside to the campus parking lot. Many local companies and industries are sending employees to speak about their jobs to Maverick students in hopes of planting seeds that will begin to grow into future career paths. Those who have confirmed include representatives from the San Antonio Fire Department, H.E.B., EMS, SAPD Bomb Squad, dentists, and more. This event is part of the school’s 70th anniversary celebration.

May 27 (Fri) – Maverick Elementary School celebrates turning 70
4 p.m., Maverick Elementary School, 107 Raleigh Pl., 78201

It’s time to buy a lot of candles! Maverick Elementary School will celebrate the Big 70 with an assembly and mariachi music. Students, parents, alumni, and board members will gather to celebrate this milestone.

May 28 (Sat) – SAISD holds mental health awareness walk
6 a.m., Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

"SAISD Into the Light" is a special event that was inspired by Jefferson High School senior Joseph Gonzalez, creator of last year’s “Jefferson Into the Light” mental health awareness walk. This student's passion for lifting the silence and stereotypes associated with mental health has taken this project from one idea on campus to one that is fully supported districtwide.
