Sept. 8 (Thurs) – School Safety: A Parent's Perspective
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Brackenridge High School, 440 Eagleland Dr., 78210
The SAISD Organizational Learning and Support Services department is partnering with the SAISD Education Foundation to host this forum for district staff focusing on a topic that dominates communities nationwide: school safety. Michele Gay is the keynote speaker of the event in the Brackenridge High School auditorium, and she is the co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools. Her daughter Josephine Grace was among the victims killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre back on December 14, 2012. Gay is a former elementary school teacher who is also a parent of a special needs child. Her perspective and the lessons learned in the aftermath of every parent's worst nightmare provides unique insight and inspiration for other parents, school staff and emergency responders. Refreshments and snacks will be served outside the auditorium starting at 5:15 p.m.
Sept. 9 (Fri) – Hirsch Elementary School "Painting with our Grandparents"
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Hirsch Elementary School, 4826 Sea Breeze Dr., 78220
Hirsch Elementary wants to get a head start on celebrating Grandparents Day with a fun after-school event called "Painting with our Grandparents". September 11 is this year's Grandparents Day, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of every year. Hirsch Elementary is opening their doors for some artistic, creative fun between students and their beloved Grandparents. All the painting action takes place in the Hirsch cafeteria. While we may not find any Picassos, it's a good bet some lifelong keepsakes will be made - along with colorful family memories.
