Sept. 12 (Mon) – Grandparents Day at Smith Elementary School 
9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Smith Elementary, 823 S. Gevers St., 78203 

Grandparents Day falls on Sunday, Sept. 11. Smith Elementary wants its students to celebrate the special kind of love only grandparents can give with a fun event the following day. The action takes place in the Smith library, where students will read and enjoy arts and crafts with their grandparents. The Smith Elementary staff also has prepared information on effective social, emotional and learning strategies that grandparents can utilize at home.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.

Sept. 13 (Tues) – Award-winning author highlights Harris Middle School Literacy Night

Harris Middle School is hosting Family Literacy Night and will feature Alda P. Dobbs, who is a proud Harris alumna and author of "Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna." Copies of the book will be given to families in attendance. Based on a true story, "Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna" is the tale of one girl's perilous journey to cross the U.S. border and lead her family to safety during the Mexican Revolution. Dobbs' debut book has received many literary recognitions, including the 2022 Pura Belpré Honor Book, NYPL Best Book of 2021, Texas Bluebonnet Master List Selection, and NPR Best Book of 2021.

Sept. 13 (Tues) – SAISD Redistricting Town Hall Meeting for Single-Member District 6

San Antonio ISD is launching a comprehensive public engagement process to gather community input for new Single-Member District (SMD) maps for its seven-member Board of Trustees. This is the first in a series of Redistricting Town Hall Meetings that will be held across the district to gather input and comments from SAISD families and community members. This meeting will focus on Single Member District 6 and will feature SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino and Board President Christina Martinez hosting a "meet and greet" session before opening up discussion on the proposed redistricting maps. Parents, teachers, staff, and community members from all schools within each single-member district are encouraged to attend the meetings.

Sept. 14 (Wed) – SAISD Bond 2020 Project Community Meeting: Rhodes Middle School

The community is invited to discuss the planning and designs for Rhodes Middle School with project architects and SAISD construction and planning staff. SAISD’s $1.3 billion Bond 2020 provides funds for safety, security and technology upgrades, and new construction, along with renovations to indoor and outdoor learning spaces. The 2020 Bond Project allocation is $47.4 million for Rhodes Middle School.

Sept. 24 (Sat) – SAISD Teacher Job Fair for campuses with vacancies
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., SAISD Central Office, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212

SAISD will look to fill any teaching vacancies that remain open at various campuses at a Teacher Job Fair.
The district is seeking to hire certified teachers or will assist teacher candidates to enter an emergency certification program, allowing them to get them onboard and into the classroom to begin making a difference in students' lives.
