Oct. 8 (Sat) – SAISD students participate in Artpace "Chalk It Up" event
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Downtown San Antonio on Houston St. between N. Flores and N. Presa

Students from Arnold Elementary, Hawthorne Academy and Storm Elementary will be among the happy kids having a fun and colorful day in downtown San Antonio at the Artpace "Chalk It Up" event.  Houston Street in the downtown area becomes a giant chalk art mural as students get to showcase drawings of their schools for all to see. This is a free, family-fun event taking place all day long while students get to work on their artistic flair.

Oct. 8 (Sat) – Burbank High School art students in Southtown Exhibit
6 p.m. to 9 p.m., San Antonio Street Art Initiative Art Studio & Gallery, 1906 S. Flores, 78204 

Burbank High School art students will have their work featured in the TZOMPANTLI: High School Street Art Exhibit for SPIRITLANDIA presented by SA Street Art. SPIRITLANDIA is the nation’s biggest Day Of The Dead River Parade and Celebration happening Oct. 27-30. Students were tasked with painting two 2’x2’ Calaveras (Tzompantli Skulls - 20 total) to showcase as a street art structure during the Emmy award winning celebration. Students were given a background in the cultural significance of the Day of the Dead culture and have been busy chipping away on their art designs and paintings. The community is invited to take a sneak peek at their progress at the San Antonio Street Art Initiative Art Studio & Gallery located at 1906 S. Flores during the Day in Southtown Festival. The exhibit is open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Prints will be sold as part of their education and to raise funding for the students and the program.

Oct. 10 (Mon) – All SAISD Campuses and offices are closed in observance of Indigenous People Day/Columbus Day.
Schools and offices will resume normal hours on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Oct. 11 (Tues) – SAISD students may benefit from $5.5 million American Rescue Plan Act funding for mental health

During their regularly scheduled meeting, Bexar County Commissioners will discuss and take action on a recommended motion to approve and execute an American Rescue Plan Act grant agreement between the county and SAISD. The $5.5 million, multi-year grant will support school mental health services, specifically therapeutic counseling support, at high school and middle school campuses.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.

Oct. 13 (Thurs) – CAST Med High School Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., CAST Med High School, 2601 Louis Bauer, 78235

CAST Med High School is hosting a huge Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on campus for their families and students. Highlights include performances by the CAST Med HS Mariachis and the Ballet Folklorico of San Antonio dance group. Artwork of students will be on display, and there will be plenty of food, fun and games for all to enjoy.

Oct. 14 (Fri) – Highland High School Hoot Fest
4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin, 78210

It's Homecoming Week at Highlands High School! Highlighting a week of fun events is Hoot Fest on campus. Hoot Fest is open to the public, especially all Highlands Owls alumni. All the fun takes place in the Highlands courtyard, where you will find food, games, and music. All proceeds go toward student group fundraisers.

Oct. 14 (Fri) – 7th Annual IB World Bowl: Jefferson vs. Burbank
6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., SAISD Sports Complex, 1000 Edwards St., 78204

The Jefferson Mustangs take on the Burbank Bulldogs in the 7th annual IB Bowl. The two International Baccalaureate World Schools celebrate their annual meeting on the football field by hosting the largest feeder school event for both campuses. All the feeder schools of both Jefferson and Burbank will show their school spirit during a special pre-game "World School Parade" around the stadium. The fun begins with a tailgate party at the SAISD Sports Complex.
