Jan. 15 (Sun) – YMLA 2023 MLK 5 K
8 a.m. to 10 a.m., MLK Park, 3503 Martin Luther King Drive, 78220 

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” The Young Men’s Leadership Academy 5K Run is a fundraising event by the school that is an official "Dream Week" celebration. YMLA is the first all-boys public school in San Antonio. YMLA's mission is to develop young men into highly effective scholars, thinkers, and leaders. Race time begins at 9 a.m. at MLK Park. Medals will be awarded to the fastest in all categories. Cleto Rodriguez will serve as Master of Ceremony for the medal presentations.

Jan. 16 (Mon) – MLK Academy Martin Luther King March
8 a.m. to 10 a.m., MLK Academy, 3501 Martin Luther King Drive, 78220 

The largest Martin Luther King march in the nation starts annually on the MLK Academy campus. Before the march begins, the MLK Academy staff and students will be making a presentation on what the man and his dream represents. MLK Principal Miriam Aguilar and Panther students will recite portions of MLK's speeches and recite poetry inspired by the day. Once the crowds have gathered on campus, the march officially begins. The MLK Academy familia will have a team making the march to Pittman-Sullivan Park.

Jan. 18 (Wed) – Lanier High School Auto Tech Students Visit Cavender Audi
9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Cavender Audi, 15447 W I-10, 78249

Lanier Auto Tech students will visit Cavender Audi and tour the auto lab repair facility. They will meet the veteran technicians on site and learn more about the skill sets required to become successful in the auto industry. This continues a long-standing partnership with the Cavender Auto Group, who also are generously donating two vehicles to Lanier High School to be utilized by the Auto Tech classes. The two donated vehicles are a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe LT and a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crew Max.

Jan. 21 (Sat.) – SAISD Educator Career Fair

New Year, new career! San Antonio ISD is recruiting teachers, instructional assistants and more at an Educator Career Fair at Brackenridge High School Jan. 21. There will be in-person interviews and on-site hiring. Job seekers are encouraged to register in advance. SAISD offers teacher salaries of $55,000 and above with opportunities to earn up to $26,500 with the Master Teacher Initiative.
