Feb. 13 (Mon) – Sweet Reads Book Giveaway

Graebner Elementary students love to read! To promote that love for literacy, Graebner will be hosting a free book giveaway. Students will be able to choose books to take home, along with other special treats and surprises.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.
Feb. 14 (Tues) – Bicycle Skills Challenge
1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Smith Elementary School, 823 S. Gevers St., 78203
Students will learn and practice bicycle safety and riding skills during this advanced Bike Rodeo skills clinic, in partnership with GHISALLO Cycling initiative. Students will practice skills such as proper use of a helmet, starting and stopping safely, verbal and hand signals, scanning ahead for danger, bike control, and avoiding obstacles.
Feb. 16 (Thurs) – Black History Living Wax Museum
4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Hirsch Elementary School, 4826 Sea Breeze Drive, 78220
Students will take on the role of heroes and influential figures they’ve been studying during a Living Wax Museum performance being held in celebration of Black History Month. Students will recreate the roles at a Reading Night, demonstrating mastery of reading, research, writing, and speaking standards.
Feb. 16 (Thurs) – Black History Trivia Night
5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave., 78210
Highlands High School is home to the only Black Student Union. To celebrate Black History Month, the Highlands BSU is hosting a Black History Trivia Night. Students will test the speed of their knowledge, with prizes awarded to the winner.
Feb. 17 (Fri) – Rogers Middle School Bond 2020 Groundbreaking
10 a.m., Rogers Middle School, 314 Galway St., 78223
Rogers Middle School is the site of the first groundbreaking ceremony among SAISD’s Bond 2020 construction projects. This is one of more than 30 projects that will renovate or improve campuses throughout the district.
