March 24 (Fri-TODAY) – SAISD's Campus of Innovation Art Show 2023 
5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Kelso Art Center at University of the Incarnate Word, 4301 Broadway, 78209

SAISD and the University of the Incarnate Word Fine Arts Department are hosting an art show that will provide a scholarship to UIW for one participating senior. The purpose of the showcase is to highlight the best artwork of the school year and provide a neutral location for the various campuses to participate and collaborate. The event is judged by local artists, curators, gallery owners and educators.
 
March 25 (Sat) – UTSA Biomedical Engineering Superheroes at Twain Academy
8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Twain Dual Language Academy, 2411 San Pedro Ave., 78212

UTSA is hosting a hands-on learning workshop for fifth graders. Students will learn about the science of how kidneys work and how technology can help patients with kidney disease. Students will even use engineering design to invent something new. 
 
March 25 (Sat) – SAISD at the Cesar Chavez March
9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Start- corner of Brazos & Guadalupe, Finish-Hemisfair Park 

SAISD will be making a huge a presence at the annual Cesar Chavez March from the west side to HemisFair Park. More than 400 students and staff from across the district will march from the intersection of Brazos and Guadalupe through downtown. The Lanier High School Mighty Voks JROTC Battalion will lead the march. Among the SAISD groups participating are middle school LOTC units, the Highlands High School Black Students Union, the Jefferson High School Mexican-American studies class, the Brackenridge High School African-American studies class, and the Herff Elementary Gardopia group. 

March 27 (Mon) – SAISD Board of Trustees Budget Workshop
5:30 p.m., SAISD Central Office, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting to discuss the budget for the 2023-24 school year.

March 29 (Wed) – SAISD Student Film Festival
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Edison High School Auditorium, 701 Santa Monica, 78212

Lights! Camera! Action! It is time to reveal the best of the best from student filmmakers across the district at the annual SAISD Student Film Festival. Grand Prize-winning films in various categories will be screened in the Edison High School auditorium, along with many others. The Grand Prize winner in the Middle School-Fiction category titled “Who’s Out There” from Poe Middle School portrays how students may feel and react to a school intruder, reinforcing a message of knowing and following safety protocols in place on every campus in light of last year’s tragedy in Uvalde. The festivities kick off in grand awards show style, complete with a red-carpet entrance where student directors will be interviewed.

March 30 (Thurs) – Highlands High School Bond 2020 Groundbreaking
9 a.m., Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave., 78210

SAISD Superintendent Jaime Aquino, and Board of Trustee Leticia Ozuna (Single-Member-District 3) will host a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the start of Bond 2020 campus improvements at Highlands High School. Project scope includes a new competition gym; renovation of the secondary gym, locker rooms and administration area; a new marching band pad site; and updates to HVAC, Technology, and Safety & Security. The Highlands High School construction budget is $40,411,569.

March 30 (Thurs) – SAISD Bond 2020 Citizens Advisory Committee Bus Tour 
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., SAISD Central Office, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212

SAISD is hosting a tour of major Bond 2016 bond improvements made at Edison High School and Sam Houston High School. Members of the Bond 2020 Citizens Advisory Committee and SAISD Board of Trustee members will take brief walking tours of new improvements at both facilities and see new innovative learning spaces for our students. The bus tour leaves the SAISD Quincy Building (located at 514 W. Quincy St., San Antonio, Texas 78212) promptly at 6 p.m.

March 30 (Thurs) – Wilson Elementary Selena Talent Show
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wilson Elementary, 1421 Clower St., 78201

On the anniversary of Selena's death, Wilson Elementary is giving students an opportunity to perform her iconic songs. Students, staff and family members will perform and compete. Selena artwork created by students also will be displayed.
