May 6 (Sat) – SAISD Critical Needs Career Fair

SAISD will look to fill vacancies that remain open at various campuses at its Critical Needs Career Fair. Areas include bilingual education, ELAR, secondary math and science, special education, SLP, nursing and more. There will be in-person interviews and on-site hiring – all while spotlighting how our educators and staff are considered superheroes at San Antonio ISD. 
 
May 6 (Sat) – 2nd Annual Bexar County Sheriff’s Police Explorer Games
8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar Chavez, 78207

A dozen Police Explorer teams from San Antonio and the surrounding area will convene at Lanier High School for the 2nd annual Bexar County Sheriff’s Police Explorer Games. The event pits Police Explorer squads from schools in a variety of competitions, including a demanding JROTC obstacle course. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar will take part in the Opening Ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. The Police Explorers provides students with chance to learn how to be a law enforcement officer. The BCSO has hired several Lanier High School graduates because of the training they received with the Police Explorers.
 
May 9 (Tues) – SAISD Kinder Signing Day at Nelson Early Childhood Education Center
1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., Nelson Early Childhood Education Center, 1014 Waverly Ave., 78201

This is the third in a series of Kinder Signing Days for SAISD. Rising kindergarten students, with crayons in hand, “sign” their certificate of acceptance – press conference style! It’s a moment for parents to cherish and for our youngest learners to take the next step in their educational journey.
 
May 10 (Wed) – SAISD Rising Stars Award Ceremony
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

SAISD campuses select a first-year teacher as their "Rising Star," and on this night, all of these stars will be honored. Among them, four will be named the district's overall "Rising Star Teachers."
 
May 11 (Thurs) – SAISD Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

Each SAISD campus names a Teacher of the Year. On this night, all campus honorees will be recognized. Among them, three will be named the district's Distinguished Teachers of the Year.
 
May 12 (Fri) – Lanier High School honors 100-year old Alum
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 1514 W. Cesar Chavez, 78207

The family of Lanier High School graduate Fernando Aquirre made a special request to the campus. They were wanting to honor Aquirre, who graduated 80 years ago with the Lanier High School Class of 1943, for his 100th birthday. “Once a Vok, always a Vok” is the Lanier motto. The Lanier High School JROTC will celebrate Aquirre's centennial birthday by presenting him with a Quilt of Valor.
 
May 13 (Sat) – 9th annual Sam Houston High School East Side Block Party
11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220 

The Annual Eastside Block Party at Sam Houston High School returns after an absence due to the pandemic. The free community event includes activities and entertainment for the whole family, including a bounce house, mechanical bull, face painting, ring toss, musical chairs, and a photo booth. Food trucks will be selling snacks while entertainment is provided by Sam Houston's Dance Club and a DJ.
