May 13 (Sat) – 9th annual Sam Houston High School East Side Block Party
11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220 

It is BACK! The 9th Annual Eastside Block Party at Sam Houston High School returns after an absence due to the pandemic. The free community event for the community will include activities and entertainment for the whole family. The Sam Houston community is looking forwards to continuing the block party tradition of unity and fun on the East side. Among the activities include a bounce house, mechanical bull, face painting, ring toss, musical chairs, and a photo booth. Food trucks will be selling snacks while entertainment is provided by Sam Houston's Dance Club and a DJ.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.
 
May 15 and 17 (Mon/Wed) – San Anto Cultural Arts Teen Community Mural Paint Days
5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (both days), 2301 Buena Vista St., 78207

Who wants to help paint the next city mural? Lanier High School student Kye Blackburn joins two McCollum High School students to design and paint the 62nd community mural. The mural design represents both the west and south sides of San Antonio, with cultural symbols, familiar locations, along with other mystical and inspiring elements. The Community Paint Days gives the public a chance to grab a paint bucket and help color what promises to be an Instagram worthy photo backdrop.
 
May 16 (Tues) – SAISD Special Olympics – Elementaries and Academies
9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Dr., 78212

This is the rescheduled date for this event that was rained out in April. All elementary and academy Alternate Learning Environment (ALE) students will be racing for gold medals at the Special Olympics Track and Field meet!
 
May 17 (Wed) – SAISD Special Olympics – Middle and High Schools
9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Dr., 78212

This is the rescheduled date for this event. All middle schools and high school Alternate Learning Environment (ALE) students will be competing for medals on Wednesday, May 17th at the Special Olympics Track and Field meet!
 
May 17 (Wed) – Jefferson High School Chuck Wagon Parade
4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave., 78201

New Jefferson High School Head of Schools Greg Rivers will meet the community at the annual Thomas Jefferson Chuck Wagon Jeff on Parade. A student pep rally starts the festivities off at 4:00 p.m. in the gym. A Meet and Greet Community Reception with Mr. Rivers will follow at 4:30 p.m. Performances by the iconic Jefferson High School Lassos and the Mustang Marching Band will highlight the evening.
 
May 17 (Wed) – Herff Elementary Arts Fest
4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Herff Elementary, 996 S. Hackberry St., 78210

The Herff Elementary Giraffes are inviting the community to their Arts Fest for some colorful fun! Mariachis will perform while families take part in a variety of art activities. Face painting puts smiles on kids’ faces, and student artists will beam with pride as their artwork is on display.
 
May 18 (Thurs) – SAISD Police Department National Police Memorial Day Ceremony
8 a.m., SAISD Central Office, 1514 W. Quincy St., 78212

May 15 is Police Officers Memorial Day, the day when law enforcement officers across the country will honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The SAISD Police Department will hold their memorial ceremony on Thursday, May 18, to remember two fallen officers from the force: Sgt. William Maldonado and Detective Cliff Martinez.
 
May 18 (Thurs) – Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee Banquet 
10:45 p.m. to 2 p.m., Hilton Palacio del Rio, 200 S. Alamo St., 78205

The final meeting for the SAISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee will go in banquet mode in downtown San Antonio. City of San Antonio officials will join campus principals and district administration in this celebration of valuing student voices.
 
May 18 (Thurs) – CAST Med High School presentation at City Council
4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave., 78201

Team DEPOT at CAST Med High School will be honored with an official proclamation from the City of San Antonio during the City Council meeting. The four female students from CAST Med High School will be presenting their report on social disparities of health and diabetes prevention in our community. The students won the statewide Speak Up Speak Out civics fair with their presentation. 

May 18 (Thurs) – Bond 2020 Community Meeting at Longfellow Middle School
6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Longfellow Middle School, 1130 E. Sunshine Dr., 78228 

Longfellow Middle School will be hosting a community meeting to update parents and neighborhood about the Bond 2020 improvements scheduled for the campus.

May 20 (Sat) – SAISD Modern Rock Bands Fest at Sam’s Burger Joint
12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St., 78215

Sam’s Burger Joint is a legendary San Antonio live music venue. On this day, the Modern Rock class students from Fox Tech High School, CAST Tech High School and Advanced Learning Academy will take the stage with their bands! Five student bands, with names like Apartment Complex, Stellar Strike and the Pebbles, will rock the joint with a high energy matinee program.
