May 20 (Sat) – SAISD Modern Rock Band Fest at Sam’s Burger Joint
12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St., 78215

Sam’s Burger Joint is a legendary San Antonio live music venue. On this day, the Modern Rock class students from Fox Tech High School, CAST Tech High School and Advanced Learning Academy will take the stage with their bands for a matinee mini-festival! Five student bands, with names like Apartment Complex, Stellar Strike and the Pebbles, promise to rock the venerable joint.
 
May 22 (Mon) – SAISD awarded Texas Workforce Commission “JET” grant

Media are invited to attend as the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) awards $1,270,364 in five Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to four San Antonio-area educational institutions to support career training. 
San Antonio ISD receives two grants:  
•$454,551 for equipment to train an initial 934 students as chiropractors in partnership with Alamo Colleges District – San Antonio College.  
•$291,891 for equipment to train an initial 253 students as electrical and electronic engineering technicians in partnership with Alamo Colleges District – St. Phillip’s College.    
 
May 24 (Wed) – Patti Radle Retirement Party at Lanier High School

Former SAISD Board Trustee Patti Radle is getting a celebratory sendoff in the heart of the city’s west side. Radle stepped down from the SAISD Board after 12 years of service to the district. She is a beloved member of the District 5 familia, with many of those gathering in the Lanier High School cafeteria for a retirement party that salutes the compassionate heart of a San Antonio icon. After more than a half century of service to the people and students of the community, the west side of San Antonio will collectively say, “Thank you”.
 
May 26 (Fri) – Douglass Elementary Memorial Day Remembrance Celebration
8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Douglass Elementary, 318 Martin Luther King Dr., 78203

Douglass Elementary is proud to host a Memorial Day Remembrance Celebration honoring all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Military personnel will be in attendance for the morning’s activities which will begin with the Presentation of Colors and a moment of silence to remember military members killed in the line of duty. The festivities will move to the campus gym for some family fun with face painting, arts & crafts and a military-style push up challenge!
