Manning named new head football coach at Brackenridge High School
06/09/2023
June 9, 2023 – Matthew “Tony” Manning has been named head football coach at Brackenridge High School.

Manning served as the first assistant and offensive coordinator for San Antonio Roosevelt High School for the past 10 seasons, which included back-to-back playoff appearances in 2019-20. The Rough Riders offense under Manning’s direction was consistently ranked at the top for points scored and yards per game. In 2015, Manning’s Roosevelt offense set a UIL state record for most yards gained in one game, with an eye-popping 915 yards, which is ranked sixth overall nationwide.

Prior to Roosevelt, he was the offensive coordinator at University High School for six seasons. During that time, Manning also served as the interim head football coach.

The Western New Mexico graduate will take over the Brackenridge Eagles, replacing Larry Norman, who was hired to become the Athletic Director and head football coach at Cole ISD.

“I’m just humbled and blessed to serve in this role,” said Manning. “I am grateful for the leadership of the district and Brackenridge High School who have entrusted me to build upon a proud program with a deep legacy of success.”

"We are pleased to welcome Coach Manning into the SAISD familia,” said Fred Anthony, SAISD senior executive director of Athletics. “He is well known for building high-powered offenses that produce and exciting brand of football. The Brackenridge community is going to like what they see this fall."

Coach Manning is eager to meet the Eagle athletes and get down to work immediately. And he has this message for Brackenridge football fans: get your popcorn ready.

"You will see an explosive offense that is going to put a lot of points on the board,” Manning said. “But it’s an offense grounded in toughness. We are going to run the ball and throw the ball. I’m ready to identify what it is that our team will do best, and we will put a product on the field that the Brackenridge community will be proud of."
